MIDLAND HOTEL OCCUPIED AFTER STOP BORIS JOHNSON RALLY

Last night, the Midland Hotel in Manchester was occupied for a short time after the Stop Boris Johnson rally near the Peterloo Monument, with campaigners requesting the cancellation of the Tory Party booking for its conference on 29th September.

"I asked if they refused entry to warmongers, trouble makers and other unsavoury characters" said Penny from Manchester People's Assembly, who had earlier spoken at the rally insisting "This is both a Leave and Remain rally, and I think it's really important that we are all united against what the Tories are doing..."

After a demo on the steps of the Midland Hotel in Manchester last night, campaigners against Boris Johnson occupied the inside of the hotel for a short time, urging it to cancel the booking for the Tory Party Conference beginning on 29th September.

"I asked if they refused entry to warmongers, trouble makers and other unsavoury characters" said Penny from Manchester People's Assembly, as anti-Boris Johnson placards were waved, slogans were chanted and a protest tune sung in the lobby.

The Midland is used almost as an HQ by Tory Party delegates at the Manchester conference, and campaigners were also publicising a Facebook group called Call The Midland* urging people to call the hotel and "politely request that they reconsider accepting bookings for the Tory Party Conference between Sunday 29/9/19 and Wednesday 2/10/19..."

The impromptu protest came after an earlier Stop Boris Johnson rally at the Peterloo Monument near Manchester Central. At the event, attended by hundreds of people as Labour Party Leader, Jeremy Corbyn, was hosting his own rally at The Lowry in Salford, Penny had railed against the Tories...

"This is both a Leave and Remain rally" she said "And I think that's really important that we are all united against what the Tories are doing here, because whatever you voted three years ago we have to come together now to say 'No coup'...What I do know is that the rich and the wealthy, epitomised by Boris Johnson and his friends, have the arrogance to not only appoint a Prime Minister by a few thousand other rich and wealthy people, but also to impose on us the suspension of Parliament.

"We've watched Brexit in a bubble and we've all had a yawn for a while as we've had no part in any of this" she added "So now it's our turn to come onto the streets and say we want to see Parliament do the job it has to do, and we want to see our MPs do the job they have to do; the streets and Parliament are coming together over this.

"Whether we leave or remain, austerity will still be with us, the homeless will still be on the streets and this whole thing has taken the spotlight off our NHS and our education, and none of us here believe in Boris Johnson's giveaway budget" she explained "Today he came out and said he may try and call a General Election in the next couple of days...

"Well, bring it on" Penny concluded "And if he doesn't and the Tories come to this very spot on 29th September for their party conference they will receive a welcome like they've never had before from Manchester...."
