Anyone who has got kids knows how expensive it is to buy new school uniforms, while people whose kids have left school or grown out of stuff don't know what to do with the out of date clothes.
Now, a great new Facebook group has been set up called Salford School Uniform Freecycle on which families can leave details and photos of uniforms they are donating, while those in need can arrange to pick them up. And it's all free.
"I created the Salford Uniform Recycle group because at the end of term I was clearing out and I didn't have anyone to pass on my children hardly worn uniform they had out grown" explains Michelle Whittaker who started the group "I looked and there wasn't anywhere I could donate at the time.
"Summer is such an expensive time of year for parents having to buy new uniforms, especially high schools and schools with branded logos and it puts extra pressure for families" she adds "The group is a simple concept: parents share what they no longer need and parents in need can request and arrange to collect. It's a great example of community spirit and families helping each other. It also means less going to landfill!"
There's a few simple rules for group members...
1. If you have uniform to give away just post information, and include size and school if applicable
2. If you need uniform just comment on the post or pm the donator
3. Arrange collection or delivery either at school or home
4. Mark as sold/remove the post so people know it's no longer available
5. Bumps welcome but limit to once a week
