This year's Green Grosvenor Park Family Fun Day takes place tomorrow, Saturday 20th July, between 11am and 4pm, and also celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Church of Ascension. As well as an open air church service from 11am, attractions include a petting zoo, donkey rides, Barrington the Magician, a live wrestling demonstration, street dancing by JD Dance and Urban Angels, and classical singing from India Yasmin Rock. Meanwhile, all fair rides are discounted to 50p, and there will be stalls from Daniel's Ices, Katie's Catering, Bon Appetite Catering and Sam's Sweet Stall... "It's wonderful to come together as a community in celebrating this historic event for the Parish of the Ascension and our Church" says Ascension Church warden Warren Mitchell "It is right that today we also give thanks and remember the countless generations of families from Lower Broughton, alongside many individuals who have given such great service to the Church and the Lower Broughton community over the past 150 years. We now very much look forward to the completion of rebuilding works and the amazing opportunities that will come with this." Keri Muldoon, of the Friends of Green Grosvenor Park adds: "We would like to thank everyone for helping donate funds for this event, including Kick Air, Alex's Bakery and Carlton convenience store that have all donated prizes towards the raffle. So get yourselves down there!"

| warren, I don't know how far you have got with the work, but if I could perhaps make a suggestion that you video as much as you can. It might be an idea to see if Salford Tech or uni might have some of their students of their media courses to come round and film it. It would be great practice for these kids, and most probably might only cost you a few cakes teas and coffeees ect. This vital work needs recording in full for future generations to be inspired by. I am sure Seddons and the architects might like the idea as well, put it to them. Once more,I wish you all good luck. |

| Walter, Seddon did the refurbishment work on my building and several other buildings on the Broadwalk. Where I live, many of the residents, and I include myself in that number, were bitterly disappointed with the results. All that I can say is that I hope Seddon, or as we called them, Saddon, are better at renovating churches. |

| Bob, you are very correct that our insurers are covering the full extent of the rebuilding and we have employed very skilled architects and builders to ensure that every aspect of the reworking is done correctly and to a high specification.
We have a very good relationship with our builders Seddon’s and the project management team, as such All works are scrutinised by the church council before they go ahead.
Our builders Seddon’s , along with the Church, are very keen to keep everybody in the parish up to date with the building works and once safe to do so, we will organise an open day for the public to take a look at the progress of the works and to ask questions about the build project.
I’ll let the Star and all in lower Broughton know about this once we have the date.

| Can the Stars religeous affairs correspondent keep us fully informed about these rebuilding works, the extent of them, cost ect. I reckon this will make good reading for all.I know for a fact the church,when it has the funds allocated can do a good job. It has good relationships going back donkeys years with top architects, engineers ect. Because this place was fully insured,it has the money.The public will see here how experts work. The church know what they can demmand from the insurers workwise, and the insurers people will be watching each penny. We will see a lot of great work done for the right money. It will be good to compare costs with the Buille hill fiasco. Hell off a job though ,where the hell they are going to get the right brickies from god alone knows, the guys I once knew able to arse about on jobs like that are six feet under 25 years ago. I have never had the patience for that type of work.I wish them all good luck. |
