SALFORD CITY MAYOR CREATES NEW £10,000 CABINET POST

Star date: 10th July 2019 SALFORD MAYOR KEEPS SAME OLD CABINET – WITH ONE NEW POST Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, has announced his Cabinet for this year with the same people as last year - plus one new position for 'Executive Support Member for Planning, Housing and Sustainable Development' filled by Councillor Mike McCusker, who will pick up a further £10,688 on top of his basic councillor allowances of £10,826. There are now 14 members of the Cabinet; the Mayor and 13 Deputies, Lead Members and Executive Support Members. At next Wednesday's meeting of the full Council, 17th July, Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, will announce his new Cabinet – which is the same as the old Cabinet, plus a new position of Executive Support Member for Planning, Housing and Sustainable Development filled by Councillor Mike McCusker. Despite reports to the contrary, Councillor Derek Antrobus keeps his post as Lead Member for Planning and Sustainable Development (pulling in £25,331.81 last year), while those who have been there since the Civic Centre was built remain in the top jobs...John Merry as Deputy City Mayor/Lead Member for Children's and Young People's Services (£33,296); Bill Hinds as Lead Member for Finance and Support (£21,307), and David Lancaster as Lead Member for Environment and Community Safety (£27,055). Councillor Paula Boshell also remains as Statutory Deputy City Mayor (£33,296 last year), while Lead Members also stay in post - Councillor Tracy Kelly (Housing and Neighbourhoods £24,799 last year); Councillor Gina Reynolds (Adult Services, Health and Wellbeing £24,799) and Councillor John Ferguson (Workforce and Industrial Relations £24,799). Councillor Mike McCusker, as Executive Support Member for Planning, Housing and Sustainable Development, will trouser an extra £10,688 on top of his basic councillor allowances of £10,826. Other Executive Support Members to remain in the Cabinet are...Councillor John Walsh (Education and Learning £21,305 last year) Jane Hamilton (Social
Care and Mental Health £12,573 before 'promotion'), Roger Jones (Transport £25,254) and Stephen Coen (Culture, Leisure and Sports £19,671). In many cases these 'allowances' are on top of councillors working full or part time jobs. Following the furore over the 13 'Assistant Mayors' created by former Mayor Ian Stewart, there are now still 13 Mayoral Cabinet assistants under various titles. Last year, 2018-19, Salford councillors pulled in £245,037 in 'special allowances' (including payments for sitting on outside bodies), while basic allowances totalled £692,076. Before next Wednesday's Full Council Meeting, the Boddan Lodge Over 60s Club will be protesting outside the Civic Centre over Council plans to effectively axe the fifty year old Monton Green Club which provides a lifeline to elderly citizens, in order to save around £14,000 (full details to follow)

| I agree with Irwell River, Coumcillor Cohen has constantly let me down like all the others but he simply doesn’t care as long as he has is name in lights, yes I’ve also looked at his attendance and found this to be very alarming, like many others in Salford, my idea of now contacting your local ward councillor is simply do it yourself |

| Realist, I am involved in this community and have done for 30 years but unfortunately Cohen, Just constantly let me down since he’s been in this ward and my friends to which this is in Baris meant to me he never helped me he promised me but he never turned up again look at his attendance on the Salford website so I do know what I’m talking about there is some cracking counsellors in this great city and I respect them for him consul lets me down |

| @irwellriver Not sure what you are basing your comments about councillor Cohen on but I’ve lived there 12 years and I can tell you one thing he’s helped me out so many times over that period, countless. He’s given me and my neighbours support even even he’s been publicly roasted for it by his ‘bosses’. Thing is people like to slag off but then don’t get involved in the community themselves. Steve Cohen will always get my vote. |

| What is it with this city council, Dennett gives a Irwell Councilliors the Executive Support for Culture, Leisure and Sport Job, what a waste of time never see this counsellor, never attends meetings, and never support the community, And he gets this job , Salford star supporters go to the city council website lock up your councillior and look at their attendance at meetings it’s shocking the apologies especially from this councillior who just never attends anything ,More public money thrown down the drain from the city council and yet still blame the government, I remember Dennette saying that he will consult the people of Salford about any changes, what an absolute clown. |

| Yes Mary, you did 4 years, that’s tens of thousands you must have had in allowances, unless you declines them?
It looks like the new independent councillor in Irlam can’t even be bothered to turn up to council meetings so that’s one drain on the council that we don’t need.
It’s like the new MEPs for the Brexit Party, can’t even be bothered turning up yet still getting thousands a week!
At least the labour and conservatives turn up!

| You wouldn't mind them getting a fair wage if they did a good job.
But they don't. You would think these councillors along with the well paid staff at the top of the ladder would know what they were doing. But they can't, otherwise we wouldn't have to pay for consultants. It stinks. |

I have received details of how to become a Labour Party candidate. I would do it for free, being a retiree I would not be losing any income elsewhere.
But I don't qualify. I am a party member so that is OK, but to qualify I need to be a trade union member and show evidence of work in the community, neither of which apply to me. So they won't get me. |

| They are running a council do you expect them to do it for free? Most people can’t be arsed to stand as a councillor so have no right to criticise allowances. I’m sure there would be a flood of applications if it was unpaid....not.
No I’m not a councillor nor ever have been I just see that this is like running a huge company and you have to pay.
By the way look at other councils and you will see that Salford councillors allowances are quite low. |
