Weaste's Chloe Brickell has been chosen as a semi-finalist in this year's Miss England contest, which is way more than a traditional beauty pageant, focusing on community work, personality and more...
"It's definitely not a beauty contest" says Chloe "They take it on more of what you do for the community. I used to be a gymnast but gave it up a few years ago because of injuries, so spend my time coaching younger children in gymnastics at Salford Gymnastics Club one day a week.
"We also get set challenges, and one is raising money for Papyrus, a charity for young people's suicide prevention that has a helpline all over the UK" she explains "After reading all that Papyrus does to help young people I really needed to choose that one and it will be really good to help."
Indeed tomorrow, Chloe will be travelling to Scafell Pike for a sponsored hike, hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for Papyrus, with a Just Giving page now open to take donations.*
Chloe, 18, was chosen for the final three dozen Northern Miss England semi-final contestants out of thousands of applicants, and is looking forward to the competition...
"Representing Salford feels crazy and quite nerve-racking but I'm feeling confident, so it should be good" she says "It's really exciting..."
