A few weeks ago we attended the filming of scenes for upcoming Salford movie Making of an Addict (MOAA). The lively scenes that were shot in and around Langworthy Cornerstone have now been made into an exciting trailer to promote the film.
MOAA is the brainchild of Chris Green (Strangeways Here We Come, Best Laid Plans) and James SHINNy Davenport, and the official teaser will be unveiled at Home Cinema on the morning of Saturday 1st June.
HOME Cinema will host the twelve minute promo, along with a short film about addiction, and afterwards SHINNy and the cast and crew will take part in a question and answer session. Added to that, the event will be also be filmed for a special edition of The SHINNy Show Live.
Making of an Addict has a top cast including SHINNy and Shameless actor Robbie Conway. It is a frank and raw account of the daily chaos experienced through alcoholism and wider addictions including sex, food, drugs and exercise. It is a mostly biographical piece that follows James from a seven-year-old boy to the present day and witnesses a life ruled by obsessive behaviours. These issues manifested and reoccurred throughout three professional careers, singer-songwriter, rugby player and boxer; all driven by a constant need for more.
After 25 years of mental torture and criminal behaviour, James turned his life around and now helps others face their demons, both as a mentor and via the hugely popular online SHINNy Show Live. He hopes that the film will help to educate the younger generation and prevent long term suffering. This honest portrayal will inform about the causes and effects of addictive and obsessive behaviours.
Chris Green has a gift for highlighting important social issues and framing them with humour and a macabre wit. While the film will be a genuine depiction of serious themes, it is also guaranteed to be punchy and entertaining with an awareness of the darkly comedic.
This vibrant film will look into the rarely mentioned 'upside' of an addictive personality. MOAA will address the subject of how addiction be channelled to drive success by high performance athletes and business people every day. The teaser was planned, prepped and shot in less than a week with a cast and crew of over fifty people. The dedicated MOAA team are all time-served professionals from a variety of productions including actors and creatives from CH4's Shameless, ITV's Emmerdale, Peaky Blinders, Coronation Street and many others.
Saturday 1st June promises to lift the lid on anxiety, depression and addiction. SHINNy informs that the Q and A will be no-holds-barred. Audience members get the chance gain an insight into any aspect of the issues featured in MOAA, or even the film making process itself. Help SHINNy, Chris and the team make recovery the new cool!
