Irlam Live continues to grow each year. Previous festivals have managed to pull in multi-million selling acts, 80s legends along with cult greats and everything in between. It's a joyous celebration of music. The result is an uplifting and varied event with something for all tastes. This year is no exception and boasts one hell of a mixed bag of talent...
Friday has a Madchester theme with Inspiral Carpets legend Clint Boon DJing. Add to that two of the region's best tribute acts the Clone Roses and Oaces. Saturday sees 90s boy-band 5ive kicking off proceedings. The Lancashire Hotpots are a great local act with tunes both brilliant and comedic. Expect to be regaled with tunes about chippy teas, Emo kids and online dating mishaps.
The Christians are an amazing live act and have an impressive set-list. Garry Christian is rightly celebrated as one the great British vocalists. The Commitments give a full-force funk set before Saturday's headliner Marc Almond.
Marc is an incredible showman and will playing tunes from his impressive solo career and, of course, tracks from the iconic and groundbreaking Soft Cell.
Brit pop outfit Toploader and former Brother Beyond frontman Nathan Moore are amongst Sunday's festival highlights. Mike Sweeney's Salford Jets also perform. The Jets buzz with an infectious love of playing live and are one of the areas 'must see' live bands. Mike and lads give it everything and are a welcome addition to any bill.
Scouse legends, The Farm, are well worth catching. Their sets include euphoric hits including All Together Now, Groovy Train and Stepping Stone. Sunday is guaranteed to finish on a high with From The Jam. Fronted by The Jam's original bass player Bruce Foxton; they authentically recreate the spirit of punk and new-wave. From The Jam skilfully blast their way through a host of classic anthems, including four number ones. With a back-catalogue that can only be rivalled by (literally) only a handful of bands, they are one of the ultimate festival acts.
Irlam Live is a perfect event for Salford. It's a great experience for all and genuinely has something for music lovers of all tastes. Get along to all three days or pick out your favourite day of this welcoming, friendly festival...
