Salford Foodbank has put out a plea for "urgent financial support to prevent having to close the foodbank..."
The full statement reads...
"In 2018 we gave out almost 5,000 emergency food parcels to local people who couldn't afford to put food on the table for themselves or their family. Due to funding from Salford Council we were able to open two new centres in Eccles and Swinton, purchase a used van for collections and pay towards running costs for the food bank. We were expecting further funding to sustain the food bank growth but have not received this which mean we will have to drastically cut our services.
How the funding will be spent...
"In 2019, we have seen a 25% increase in the amount of people needing the food bank . We need £10,000 so that we can continue to support as many local people in the local community as possible. The finance raised will be used towards ongoing running costs including fuel for the van as well as paying towards staff costs and paying utility bills."
How this will benefit the community
"We currently work with 120 local agencies including schools, G.P's, housing associations and social services who refer people to the food bank who are in a crisis situation. We also partner with organisations including Salford Citizens Advice and Salford Mind who provide advice on benefits, housing and other issues at our food bank centres. We want to help support people beyond the emergency crisis and to lift people out of poverty..."
The Salford Foodbank has opened a Local Giving crowdfunding appeal to raise £10,000 in 44 days. So far just £690 has been donated.
