Documentary, Spank The Banker doesn't hold anything back, opening with the assertion, "In the decade after 2008, Britain saw the greatest bank robbery in history..."
It's followed by crying children being evicted, and a further assertion that "£100billion of assets were taken from small businesses"...
"People lost their houses, everything" says Anthony Stansfield, Police Commissioner of Thames and Valley "People who were running successful businesses were out on the street..."
One of the victims featured is Juliette Mottram, who was evicted with her five children from their family home by HBOS, a subsidiary of Lloyds Bank and the holding company of the Bank of Scotland...
She tells the Salford Star that her ex partner died in 2015, but their children were to inherit the family business, Carringworth Ltd.... "This family business employed over five hundred people and supplied the power steering components for cars all over the world" she says "Really a successful business that couldn't fail! Hence the reason HBOS wanted to steal the business
"Our company is a victim of HBOS Reading where six individuals were jailed for 48 years on 30th January 2017" she adds "Myself and children had our lives taken by violent thugs on 6th June 2016 and now are homeless and penniless. The thugs posing as bailiffs also stole our worldly goods; computers jewellery, everything! The thugs have then taken our belongings to a storage unit called the 'big yellow' in Brighton...this storage unit was in the press as it stored a dead body of the murdered teacher...
"The message is that the bank will stop at nothing to silence its victims, that is why we made our film" she explains "There are many victims of bank fraud living in Salford."
Juliette reckons that over 16,000 SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises) have been 'screwed' by RBS and NatWest. Now Spank The Banker aims to break the silence.
The film uses a mixture of compelling interviews with victims, key journalists and police investigators; plus dramatic, secretly-filmed episodes of bankers caught unawares revealing their activities, and of bank-hired goons repossessing the homes of those defrauded.
Among the victims featured are Nikki and Paul Turner, who masterminded sound and lighting for Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen and the famous Live Aid concert – and who have spent a decade fighting Lloyds Bank for justice; Jim McGrory, who overcame childhood polio to build an international hotel business in St Andrews only to be taken down by the Clydesdale Bank; Neil Mitchell who has been a victim of the RBS infamous Global Restructuring Group; and the TV personality Noel Edmonds, who was pushed to the edge of suicide when his £60million business was stolen by HBOS.
Incredibly, the fight for justice for all the victims is still ongoing, despite a wealth of evidence presented in this powerful film.
