Residents on the Spike Island estate in Lower Broughton are marvelling at new toilet sink combos that have been fitted in their houses. The sink on the unit doubles as a cistern and uses the washing water to flush the loo...
"You do what you're doing, close the lid, flush it, and as it's flushing you wash your hands, and it recycles the water into the toilet to flush it again" says Debbie Prince who has had one fitted downstairs by Salix Homes "The paper goes up into a macerator, and then it goes out through the proper drains.
"I had a wet room installed and originally asked if I could have a downstairs toilet but because of where the electric pipes are situated it couldn't be done" she explains "When I had the wet room fitted there was a toilet outside, I asked them what it was for and they said it was my downstairs toilet.
"I laughed at first, I've never seen one before and I don't think anyone has!" she adds.
Debbie and her friend Maggie, who has also had one fitted, are delighted with the water saving device..."Oh it's great, really handy. It was a real bonus" says Debbie.
