NEW SALFORD ALLIANCE OF INDEPENDENTS TO STAND ON HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY IN LOCAL ELECTION

Star date: 25th March 2019 ALLIANCE TO STAND ON COMMUNITY, HONESTY, STRENGTH AND TRANSPARENCY In Salford, a new Alliance of Independents has launched in time for this year's May local election, standing on the virtues of 'Community, Honesty, Strength and Transparency'. As well as two CORE Independent candidates in Irlam and Cadishead, the Alliance also includes Councillor Paul Wilson, who resigned from the Salford Labour Party last month and says that he wants "an end to the patronage that silences councillors from truly representing their communities". Even local election Green Party candidate, Bryan Blears agrees: "I would urge anybody who cares about Salford to get out and get involved in local politics, because we desperately need things to change" he says. 'Community, Honesty, Strength and Transparency' are the virtues that a new Salford Alliance of Independents states it will be championing at the forthcoming local election in May. The Alliance was founded by Dave Pike and Darren Goulden of CORE, which ran the Labour Party close in Irlam and Cadishead at last year's election, together with Councillor Paul Wilson, who resigned from the Salford Labour Party last month citing "fake socialists", "bullying", "factions and patronage", "vanity projects" and a "morally corrupt party"...* "It's become obvious to many that the old style political system is failing Salford" say Dave Pike and Darren Goulden "...We want to create a place to live that has core values at its centre, encourages individuality and gives people the freedom to be a part of a democratic society where free thinking is encouraged and embraced. "Community, Honesty, Strength and Transparency are what should set Salford aside" they add, explaining that the Alliance is a network of people "who only want what is best for Salford. We will be guided by the people, for the people. Working together to ensure our core policies are created as a fundamental guide for everyone to follow...An entirely new way of doing things." The Alliance is following in the footsteps of independent groups like Farnworth and Kearsley First in Bolton and various new opposition groupings in Wigan that have had candidates elected recently. Labour Party Councillor Stephen Ord, who has withdrawn from standing in Irwell Riverside again this May, together with Councillor Paul Wilson, also slammed the current leadership of the Salford Labour Party at last week's Council Meeting, accusing them of being "vile bullies" and a "Mafia"**, although he is not joining the Alliance, as far as the Star knows. "The people of Salford want a change from party politics and an end to the patronage that silences councillors from truly representing their communities" Councillor Paul Wilson told the Salford Star today "We need to make it appealing to vote again. I believe Salford residents want transparency and honesty." Paul Wilson will be standing as an Independent candidate in his current seat of Weaste, and Dave Pike and Darren Goulden state that more announcements of further candidates will follow shortly... "We're hopeful that with this announcement and the political turmoil both locally and nationally more individuals will come forward" they explain "After discussions between us and Paul Wilson it became clear we all had the same core values and we agreed unanimously that we would be stronger working in alliance with each other. We see this as a huge springboard for the all outs next year and envisage a very different looking Council in May 2020..." Meanwhile, while not joining the Alliance, Green Party local election and General Election candidate, Bryan Blears, agrees with the new coalition's sentiments... "There hasn't been a proper opposition in Salford for years and people have been let down as a result" he told the Salford Star earlier "Our Labour-led Council has been too willing to sit back and blame 'Tory cuts' for all of the problems in our city. But simply blaming the cuts is not good enough. People in Salford are fed up of excuses, they want solutions. "In the past few months I have met with various groups in and around Salford and it is incredible how many people are crying out for political change" he added "I think that this year is going to be a big wake-up call for some of the people currently in charge. In particular, the way that this Council has allowed private developers to run roughshod over our Green Belt land is deeply concerning for people concerned with the future of our city. "I would urge anybody who cares about Salford to get out and get involved in local politics, because we desperately need things to change" he concluded.

| Rossi mentions the"tree lined streets of Trafford". Well, if you go to Trafford general hospital, and for some reason, you don't like the free car parks there, you can park your car in the tree lined streets nearby, without fear of over zealous wardens giving you a ticket. Thats because you are allowed to park in the streets nearby. Contrast that with Hope hospital, where the caring Salford council own the car park and police it and the surrounding streets with gestapo like efficiancy. |

Your brother had a job in the 80s and 90s, well I worked for Trafford council when it was Tory run, at a high level, and let me tell you this, money was squandered, totally and absolutely squandered. Not by councillors, but by those who have the power, the people like me, the officers that actually run the council. I had no political affiliation so couldn’t have cared less who ran it, all I know is, I was in a huge salary for doing very little, as were lots of us working in the town hall. A fortune was spent in sick pay, with people coming back when they were going on half pay, only to go back off sick the minute their full sick pay entitlement resumed. This was nothing to do with political parties this was the people who work for the councils enjoying a very good ride. You slag off labour but actually you are part of the problem, someone who thinks he’s entitled when I bet you haven’t put anything into the system. If you want the streets cleaned have you tried going out and organising a litter pick in your community??? I have, and do, do my streets are always clean so that when the council do come round there’s not much to do apart from when the entitled dross drive over and dump bags of waste, so that my council tax has to be spent clearing it up. Instead of arse licking Mary Ferrer, and slagging labour, who let’s face it aren’t going to lose sleep over you, get off your arse and do something about the lack of street cleaning by doing it your bloody self! |

| people in Salford don't vote, Ray. That's why Labour always get in. My brother was a park keeper for Trafford council back in the 80s and 90s. He used to say things like the thing about Conservative councils is that the streets are always clean, and often tree lined. Now compare that with Salford. What are we actually paying council tax for? The fact is Labour councils are never any Good, and Salford is one of the very worst. |

| As I see it, when anyone votes Labour, the dozen or so people that actually contribute to this site (I think it’s less as some of them post under different aliases), say they are lazy or sheep or thick or they will vote for a monkey if they put a red rose on it etc etc etc, when in actual fact the VAST majority vote labour because they are the best party to support the city. I have to agree that lots of the posters on here are very right wing, Xenophobic and some actually racist. I’m all for some genuine opposition, but sadly I don’t see much more than self serving, self righteous people putting themselves forward in a lot of cases, not all, but a lot. The star is not representative of the views of most of Salford and I know this through the community work I do (non political).

There is no way you can describe the Garidos and the rest of them as as an unrepresentative clique that is poorly represented and lacks electoral support. These people are well supported in these areas ,and fully represent the interests of their electorat. Whatever you may think of them, they look after the people that vote for them far better than any labour councilor does for their people. |

representation or suggestions that certain areas of Salford,such as Eccles or Worsley,should have special political status,should be seen for what they are - special pleading by unrepresentative cliques who have singularly failed to attract electoral support!
Proportional Representation is well known for breaking the link between the electorate and the parties who exercise political power.

| Salford Voted Leave in the Brexit Referendum even though the 2 MPs Rebecca Long Bailey and Barbara Keeley supported Remain and in the GM Devolution that was forced on to the people of Salford and the other parts of Greater Manchester outside Manchester City Council without the people getting a yes or no vote in a referendum the real winners who will benefit is Manchester City Council and we have to pay a council tax precept to pay for the Mayor Of GM |

| Not only is it time for more independents it's time for proportional representation . Certainly at local level . British politics is a mess from top to bottom and it's a mess because less and less capable people want to get involved and less and less people are exercising their right to vote as a result. And the stagnation starts at the bottom in most metropolitan areas . Labour have run Salford ever since its creation in the '70's and that rule has never looked liked being genuinely challenged. 45 years of the same crowd!!! Unbelievable .The secrets they must have!!! No wonder apathy always wins. First past the post creates an artificial hegemony that doesn't reflect large sections of local opinion. So people don't get involved and then we get incompetents and half wits rising to the top of our local and national parties.But the reboot needs to start at grassroots.We need PR locally or an element of democratic decision making needs to be restored to the townships that constitute Salford. |

| I have never been a Labour voter, but having recently emailed my local candidate to ask what they planned to do about Barbara Keeley voting for an extension to Brexit and therefore making it clear she is a remainer, going again the local leave vote, I have had no reply. Think this speaks volumes.
As well as this Salford people just do not learn, and if they vote Labour they will continue to reap what that sows. |

| Hi I’m never voting for Labour in Salford ever again they are so corrupt, I recently had a planning application application by Forviva which impacts me immensely my objections were completely ignored and now I’m going to have 12 x 2 bedroom flats for homeless people overlooking my back garden. These flats are going to be a rehabilitation centre but what about me I bought my house but have no rights I’m fighting cancer but they don’t give a shit about me and my family |

| We do need more independent councillors, i think there should be at least one in each ward, though, if you look at the state of the country with a hung parliament, we do need to make sure that important decisions get through and it isn’t just tit for tat style of point scoring politics.
Good luck to all those involved, and all the genuine councillors and candidates in Salford that want to see a change. |

| God it must be bad when a member of Hazel Blears family is slagging the Labour party. The main problem is appathy, people need to get off their bums and vote. The turnout over the last good few years has been bad, very bad. This Labour run council have had their own way far too long. We need a strong opposition within the Council. I will standing again in Claremont. I have lived here all my life, I have been involved in the community for most of my adult life. I love the city of my birth and I am passionate about my community.
