PETER HOOK LIVE IN SALFORD

Star date: 7th March 2010

Peter Hook: An Evening Of Unknown Pleasures.
Saturday 1st May The Lowry

New Order, Joy Division, Hacienda – he's done the DJing, done the film, done the book, done the club. Now Hooky's going live on tour around the UK talking the talk, being quizzed, playing the bass and showing films and memorabilia, all compered by top ex dope dealer Howard Marks.

It's all coming to home town Salford on May Day…

The last time Hooky performed live in Salford he was DJing for charity at the Ashley Brook pub in Langworthy. Now the total roadshow is moving a mile up the road to The Lowry, where the audience will get the full works of chat, Q&A, a bit of bass playing, an exhibition and never seen before footage of Joy Division, New Order, the Hacienda and out-takes from 24 Hour Party People.

Compered by ultra charismatic ex dope dealer and author of Mr Nice, Howard Marks, it should be an absolutely top night, as Hooky's revealed himself to be as good as gabbing as he is with the bass. And he'll be talking about stuff he couldn't include in the book because the lawyers got twitchy. Hooky has also promises to answer any questions the audience chucks at him…

"For me, it's about being honest" he says "If people have got any queries or if they want anything answering, they can have a go. I don't care what they say. It will be off the cuff and on the fly, although there have been occasions when I've been wrong footed.

"In Canada, this kid said 'You've been a musician for thirty years – the first 15 you never said anything (which we didn't because we were very shy) and the last 15 you won't shut up. Why?' So you do leave yourself open but that shows your personality."

We're sure loads of Salford people will have loads to say…this is your chance to grill him!

COUNCIL BLOCKS FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST ON £4,000 MIPIM TRIP

Salford City Council has refused to answer a Salford Star Freedom of Information request on which private company paid the £4,022 costs for City Mayor Paul Dennett and two staff to go to the South of France for the MIPIM property event.

The Council states that "the commercial interests of the Council outweigh that of the public interest in disclosure". The Salford Star is to appeal the decision.

DEVASTATING SURVEY OF NORTH WEST COUNCIL WORKERS SHOWS LOCAL SERVICES COLLAPSING

Star date: 18th June 2018

OVER 80% OF COUNCIL WORKERS HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN SERVICES AND ALMOST 50% THINKING OF LEAVING THEIR JOBS

A survey of almost 1,500 local council workers in the North West reveals that 81% have no confidence in the future of local services, 49% are thinking of leaving their jobs, 54% believe their council no longer delivers quality services, and 45% think that their employer doesn't make the right decisions for the public.

The other results of the survey by UNISON to coincide with its local government conference make equally depressing reading, as the union states that "Vital local services in the North West are collapsing".

Caring for a loved one is indeed a labour of love but it can also be life consuming and draining. So a group called Time Out For Carers is making a difference, running weekly sessions where escapism is the order of the day.

There's free massages, trips out, advice on allowances, tea and coffee and cakes, but, most importantly, relaxed informal chats with carers who are all in the same position.
