UNITE AGAINST FASCISM CONDEMNS RACIST ATTACK ON SALFORD FAMILY HOME AND URGES OPPOSITION TO TOMMY ROBINSON RALLY

Star date: 18th February 2019

'TOXIC ATMOSPHERE' IN SALFORD AS TRADE UNIONS AND MPS URGE OPPOSITION TO ROBINSON MEDIA CITY RALLY

The racist graffiti on the home of a Salford family has been condemned by Unite Against Fascism (UAF), which is jointly organising the protest against far right Tommy Robinson at Media City this Saturday, 23rd February.

"Worryingly, we are seeing a number of racist attacks, such as the disgraceful graffiti on this family's Salford home" states Paul Jenkins of UAF "These attacks are part of a toxic atmosphere in which all forms of racism are being whipped up." Also backing the protest against Robinson are a host of trade unions and Worsley and Eccles South MP Barbara Keeley.

As news broke yesterday that racist graffiti had been daubed on the family home of a ten year old boy in Salford, anti-racists condemned the attack as part of a 'toxic atmosphere' that is spreading, and urged people to turn out in numbers against far right Tommy Robinson when he holds his protest against the BBC this Saturday 23rd February.

"Worryingly, we are seeing a number of racist attacks, such as the disgraceful graffiti on this family's Salford home" says Paul Jenkins, North West Regional Organiser of Unite Against Fascism (UAF) "These attacks are part of a toxic atmosphere in which all forms of racism are being whipped up. They are completely abhorrent and unacceptable."

Robinson - real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon - has announced that he will be holding a rally against the BBC at Media City in protest at a Panorama programme about him but Weyman Bennett, Joint National Secretary of the UAF, explains...

"Robinson regularly consorts with far right individuals like Steve Bannon who seek to divide Muslims and Jews, black and white, and often support violence to further their aims. Journalism that lifts the lid on Robinson, his funding and his violent racism is welcome.

"We should not allow the fascist Tommy Robinson to be 'normalised'" he adds "He's not a journalist or an 'activist'. He is a far right thug who looks to rip up our diverse society and promote dangerous divisions within it. It is important we stand together and defend our democracy against the far right."

The counter demonstration against Robinson is jointly organised by UAF and Stand Up To Racism and is backed by an array of trade unions, MPs, including Worsley and Eccles South MP Barbara Keeley, and Dan Hett, the brother of Martyn Hett, a victim of the attack on Manchester Arena in 2017, and co-founder of Survivors Against Terror.

'We are asking as many as people as possible to attend the Unite Against Fascism/Stand Up to Racism protest against Tommy Robinson's demonstration at Salford Media City, 11.00am, on Saturday 23rd February" says Paul Jenkins.

Appalling that you are having to hijack a rally that isn’t a racial topic !! Go and do your own and stop being media leeches . Salford lad through and through and I was appalled dat the graffiti on the door but what has this got to do with the BBC being exposed ??? Please explain?

Before people get their knickers in a twist I'll start by saying that the graffiti was vile and if the people can be caught they should do some serious time, that sort of thing is not welcome in Salford or for that matter anywhere in the UK. BUT That doesn't decry the terrible journalism on display here, no mention for the reason for Tommy Robinson's appearance in Salford, that he has footage of employees of the BBC showing disgraceful signs of institutional class bias (footage already there for all to see on You tube). He has chosen Salford+ to unveil all the footage for obvious reasons, a counter march is tantamount to people endorsing the BBC and the bias that it undoubtedly shows. Again to prevent knicker twisting I detest Robinson but feel some of his views are very valid but presented in a thug like manner.

I won't be attending because I am not a supporter of Robinson and I don't believe in using threats, intimidation or violence to disrupt the legal demonstrations of people I disagree with.

Not condoning the action in the slightest, but maybe people are fed up with the way housing is being allocated in Salford?

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
