Princes Park Garden Centre in Irlam is a fully operational garden centre near the park that sells plants and trees, and woodwork products like bird boxes and planters. The social enterprise states that it wants the place "to be an important community asset which provides a relaxing, friendly environment that everyone will want to use".
Indeed, the Centre is also a work based training facility for people with long term learning disabilities and mental health needs, as well as offering volunteering opportunities for others in the community.
However, the Centre's welfare building, used by staff, volunteers and students, has a leaking roof that is now creating a health risk, and an office and both toilets are shut...
"Water is now coming into the canteen area used for eating and as shelter from the elements, and there are even mushrooms growing inside the building rather than out in the garden centre" says the Centre's Stacey Antclif.
A Go Fund Me appeal has now been launched with a target of £80,000 under the banner 'Help! We desperately need a new canteen'*...
"Replacing this will mean creating more comfortable safe space for the service users as well as additional rooms for local community groups to meet and provide projects" Stacey explains "It will also mean staff can be located more effectively and in easier reach of the service users and any visitors to the centre."
