NO DEAL BREXIT WOULD COST £2,730 PER SALFORD RESIDENT

Star date: 8th February 2019

UNDER NO DEAL BREXIT, GREATER MANCHESTER ECONOMIC GROWTH WOULD BE £8.2BILLION SMALLER – OR £2,730 PER RESIDENT

A report by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) states that under a no deal Brexit, "Greater Manchester economic growth would be £8.2billion smaller - £2,730 per resident."

Other Brexit scenarios will see the GM economy shrink by between £5.1billion and £1.9billion, according to the report. Meanwhile, exercises have already taken place "to understand the civil contingencies risks and potential impacts".

Next Tuesday, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) will discuss its 'Preparations For EU Exit', with a report from its latest Brexit Monitor.

At a meeting in September last year, the GMCA agreed "that a 'no deal' Brexit be opposed outright and where all other options have been exhausted, the GMCA would support a People's Vote", the report states, further adding in December that "the trajectory of forecast economic growth will be lower than compared to today's arrangements (i.e. current trading relationships with the EU)"...

The report gives the following estimates...

* Under a no deal scenario, the Greater Manchester economic growth would
be £8.2billion smaller (around £2,730 per resident);

* Under the average FTA [free trade agreement] scenario, the Greater Manchester economic growth would be £5.1billion smaller (around £1,680 per resident)

* Under the EEA-type scenario, the Greater Manchester economic growth would be £1.2billion smaller (around £410 per resident)

* Under the White Paper scenario, the Greater Manchester economic growth would be £0.4billion smaller (around £150 per resident), and with the additional impact of non-tariff barriers...would be £1.9billion smaller (around £640 per resident).

Behind the scenes, there has been urgent 'civil contingency planning' via the Greater Manchester Resilience Forum (GMRF), and the report states that "Appropriate Command, Control and Communications (C3) structures are planned to be in place ahead of and running through the relevant period. These are designed utilising the concept of 'dealing with the unusual in the usual way'."

Planning exercises have taken place "running through scenarios designed from a month before exit, in the immediate days after exit and through to two months after exit... to understand the civil contingencies risks and potential impacts, stress-test planning assumptions and C3 systems and to enhanced joint situational awareness and assessment of risks".

The GMCA has compiled a register of risks associated with major infrastructure projects, while the NHS has also been calculating risks... "Although there has been no requirement for local NHS to stockpile any medicines or medical supplies, work has been going on in the Health Sector locally, working with the NHS and Department nationally to consider risks and issues" the report states, adding that "The most significant risk area identified is the reliance on EU workers in the health & social care sector".

Indeed, the report notes that the GM economy relies on 65,000 EU nationals working within the sectors Distribution, Hotels, and Restaurants (24,000), Banking and Finance (13,000), Manufacturing and Construction (15,000) and Public Admin, Education and Health (13,000).

The GMCA also notes, with understatement, that "Given the changeable and fast moving nature of the national Brexit position, Members will recognise by the time of the meeting the situation may well be different and have evolved from the time of writing"...

Mr.brexit, what makes you think that Brexit wilĺ bring "freedom"? When Brexit actually happens,we'll still be under the yoke of a Tory/Finance Capitalist Diçtatorship, where the Working Class are continually shafted in order to prop up the system. If a Hard Brexit occurs, then Britain will be shackled to the World Trade Orģanisation,WTO,one of the most secretive and undemocratic organizations on the pĺanet. The Tory Right see Brexit as a convient pretext for attacking the eçonomic and social position of workers. Be careful for what you wish for,Mr.brexit !

Staunch Brexiteers really ignorant (lack of knowledge not manners) and unpleasant . Does this include Kate hoey, and messrs Skinner and Mann, the only socialists who don't talk through their arses.I reckon our Ray might be a bit correct here.If he casts his mind back to the referendum results, he will find that a good majority of Salford people voted for brexit, are theyignorant and unpleasant. The majority of these will statisticaly be labour voters.I could name 7 or 8 labour councilors who voted brexit (I don't know about the rest of them), are they ignorant and unpleasant as well? Lets have a role call here. we all voted in the referendum. we all have strong views on this.let us see if we can find out how our councilors voted. Can readers write in if they new how councilors voted themselves at referendum time? I would bet a bottle of whiskey that in the labour group the brexiteers were in the majority.

Picture above is quite funny. “ I didn’t vote for you to cede power to the mob” ( and it also includes a picture of mr truthful tony Blair in it) no you voted for them to cede complete power to the European Union with no say, to unelected Eurocrats like juncker. 16.5 million low IQ people voted to be ruled, 17.4 million high IQ people voted to rule themselves and to remain free to choose their own future and destiny.

David winder. Spot on. Don’t forget the millennial bug, all computers and anything with a chip will crash. And don’t forget after we leave, the sky will fall down, the sun and moon will fall into the sea and the people who are peddling this shite, the one with most to loose when we come out, the ones on the EU gravy train, yes the the kinnocks, Blair’s, mandlesons, hesltines. Yes the same doom mongers as usual. When the above pipe up against anything you know you have to do the complete opposite, because it’s in their interests they are talking from, not the other 99% .When the above start squealing you know your making the right decisions for the country and the majority. Brexit and freedom, bring it on.

What a load of shit Not one economic forecast produced by any of these organisations has ever been correct. None of them could predict the 2008 crash the day before it happened, yet here they are predicted what will happen with Brexit years in advance Not one of them take into account changes which the government can make to alter this outcome as everyone of these studies is based on the assumption that no government policy would change over the period and that is beyond ludicrous. This entire thing is drivel and scaremongering tat As for EU nationals working in the NHS, kindly show me where ANYONE has said that EU nationals will have to leave? In fact everyone is advocating a skills based immigration system, where doctors and nurses are automarically allowed here. So frankly, your entire post is shite. Fake News and if this is how you have to convince people to not want to leave the EU, by peddling hysterical bullshit then it says it all about how shit membership really is when you have to lie like that. What a load of deceitful arseholes you are

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
