A Handbook of Marxism, first published by Victor Gollancz in 1935, is a bit of a classic of its time, featuring extracts from Marx, Engels 'and the greatest of their followers'.
Jim Auton, originally from Salford but now based in Ipswich, borrowed the in-demand book from Bert Cottam, an AEU shop steward at Lankro around 1963 but subsequently misplaced it...
"I managed to lose it and to say the least he was pissed off" says Jim, who has now found it and had it re-bound.
Unfortunately Bert Cottam died a few years ago but Jim wants to return it to the Cottam family as the book originally belonged to Bert's father... "It has niggled me for all these years" he says.
If anyone knows any members of the Bert Cottam family so that A Handbook of Marxism can be returned please get in touch via the Salford Star. The contents sound really gripping, as the intro states it gives the reader "the most comprehensive account of Marxism possible within the limits of a single volume"...
