SALFORD RESIDENTS LAUNCH NEW SANTA PROTEST IN RESPONSE TO BELLWAY HOMES LEGAL THREATS TO STOP PROTESTS

Star date: 14th December 2018 AS BELLWAY THREATENS INJUNCTIONS AND FINES, SWINTON RESIDENTS RESPOND WITH SANTA PROTEST "Saturday is the day for reminding Bellway that we have every right to peaceful assembly on a public footpath..." Two weeks ago, Bellway Homes' solicitors wrote to the Saving Our Neighbourhood campaign - which is objecting to the company's mad construction of 241 houses off Campbell Road in Swinton - threatening injunctions and fines unless it wrote an 'undertaking' not to "interfere and/or attempt to interfere with Bellway's legitimate commercial interests". In response, tomorrow at noon, residents will hold a special Santa protest at the site entrance..."It's vital that our community makes it clear that a threat from a multi-billion pound developer...will not scare us into signing away our democratic legal rights" states the group. It seems that Bellway Homes have taken a leaf out of fracking company Cuadrilla's draconian book of how to try and stop peaceful, democratic protest, threatening Swinton residents with a restraining injunction. Bellway's solicitors wrote to the Saving Our Neighbourhood campaign, which has held protests at Campbell Road and at Salford City Council meetings, centred on the huge problems caused by the developer having only one access road into its site, where it is building 241 houses.* The company's solicitors accused campaigners of subjecting its subcontractors to "protests, blockades, threats, abuse and violence", and that they had been informed by a "confidential source that you, along with a number of other individuals, are planning to attend the Sites to obstruct our client and protest against the planned development... "This threat to Bellway's commercial interests is simply unacceptable and this matter is being taken very seriously and our client is prepared to involve the Police in relation to your conduct" the solicitor's letter adds, also threatening to "commence civil proceedings against you...for an injunction restraining you from committing the acts complained of above (or similar) in the future, damages, legal costs and interest..." The solicitor's letter further required "that you provide us with an unequivocal undertaking in writing...that you will not in the future, either directly or indirectly:
(a) obstruct and/or attempt to obstruct Bellway's right of access to the Site;
and/or (b) otherwise interfere and/or attempt to interfere with Bellway's legitimate
commercial interests." The Saving Our Neighbourhood group has responded by accusing Bellway Homes of "bringing members of our community into disrepute"... The group adds: "It's vital that our community makes it clear that a threat from a multi-billion pound developer via their multi-national law firm will not scare us into signing away our democratic legal rights. "This outrageous behaviour by a powerful corporation, encouraged by governmental regulatory shifts in favour of developers, has to be stopped right here" it adds "Bellway's attempt to crush our small community, fighting to hang on to our quality of life, has far reaching implications, for us and every other community struggling in the face of rampant development. We are now a test case. "Developers, with the support of City Councils are not building housing that will answer the current housing crisis, they are building houses which will line their pockets" the group explains "In their drive to satisfy their shareholders they are fracturing local communities decades in the making and putting local residents at risk." Tomorrow, Saturday 15th December, from noon, the Saving Our Neighbourhood group is holding a Letter To Santa protest at the site entrance on Campbell Road... "Saturday is the day for reminding Bellway that we have every right to peaceful assembly on a public footpath" it states "Get your Santa hats out, bring the children, this is a time to consolidate feelings about what's been happening on our estate since May." The community will be writing letters to Santa 'about what you would really like Bellway to give you for Christmas' and there will be a six foot Santa present together with a giant postbox, Christmas music, snacks and hot drinks. | Lets face facts Ray. The areas where Salfords wealthiest ,best educated people, or to be more accurate, where the highest concentrations of these people reside, are in fact Bothstown Worsley and Kersal. The first two were always Tory, now Kersal has seen how Labour do not care about local views so they are solid tory now.Are you saying these people are all daft because they vote for people who listen to them? The perfect example was the two planning cases. Look how the council got on the tory opposition side for the one in Worsley, while the protestors in the labour ward were shoved aside. The answer is simple, vote tory in local elections, and they reflect your views at clownhall.The torys don't give a shit about labour voting areas, they just let the council carry on making a balls up in them. That is the deal, the torys basicly run their own wards, that is why the streets are so clean there. Go and have a look yourself don't believe me. |

Under Theresa May,"The Northeŕn Powerhouse" has become a sick joke;Toŕy Tosspot,Chris Grayling,is busy undermining/cancelling proposed transport infrastructure investment to improve links between the North West and North East!
The proverbial will really hit the fan,for the Tories,next year,if Britain crashes out of Europe without a deal - under such circumstances, Greater Manchester will take a major blow to its economy. Remember what happened to Salford in the early 1980's! |

| Ray I may or may not stand in May. I haven't made my mind up. What I do know the people of Salford need to get out there and vote. Labour have run our city into the ground. Long before all the cuts. They don't even listen to their own councillors, what bloody chance have we the residents got.we need councillors who have the bottle to stand up when decisions are being made that they feel are not in the best interest for our city and the people who live here |

| I understand the access issue concerns of this construction, but why are the placards in the photos of the kids saying they'll be losing the council is "stealing our playground". I'm pretty sure the plans show a much nicer park, better than an old ruined sewage works anyway. Much better for kids than the current overgrown brownfield. |

| Wendy, I too am a green, perhaps a politically incorect one, but still a green. The trouble we have in Salford is that the vast majority of people are that stupid that they always vote labour. Since we live in a democracy, we have to accept that these labour turds are always going to win in Salford.The only way perhaps is for all the other parties to get together at the next mayoral election and select one candidate. If this candidate won, they could then select a cabinet from whatever parties they wished. there would still be a huge rump of labour councillors opposing every move. |

| He never gives up does he. Listen Ray, just down the road from this site ,there was another one. Our old mates Peel wanted to build on it.The Garidos and the rest of the Worsley mob got it stopped. Peel went to appeal, and lost. It was all reported here. The tory lot seem to get their way all the time with our labour council.The people of Kersal seem to have seen the light as well.The thing is though the tories never mention anything that is not in a tory ward. What have this lot lot said about the mansion in the park?sweet F.A.Look at old Robin. Like him or loath him, this guy is well qualified to speak on property matters. He held his own at the public enquiry against one of peels well paid QC barristers. He was in the game for years before he retired.He says balls all about anything not on his patch.It seems to me there is some kind of arrangement between our two parties , each looks after their own people. What does Ray suggest these people do?All they can do is punish those responsible like the kersal lot have done, and vote the useless labour morons out. |

| Vote a Tory in next MAY. Why??? They sit on planning and hardly ever challenge decisions unless it's in Boothstown or Worsley. They very rarely say anything at full council.They don't challenge major decisions that effect our City. Yes good idea to vote a Tory in.We need change, we won't win issues like this latest housing plan unless we have a strong opposition. If the people of Salford don't like the way our city is being run, the answer is in your hands next MAY and the year after when all 60 councillors are up for election. Don't moan about things, change it we have that power. |

The Green party puts up candidates with the courage to challenge such bad planning decisions.
We also will oppose the policing council tax rise.
And propose an insulation subsidy along with a clear minimum house quality, including insulation, for every new build!
We want to tax hotels in Salford to raise more money for housing too.
I would ban further multistory carparks. Bad for health.

| If they have planning permission, surely there has already been a consultation? So differing views have already been submitted, considered by a professional and so a Decision on balance taken. They would not approve anything without the benefits outweighing the downsides.
So now, the objectors may get excited about protest but you are showing yourselves as a little silly (at best). Your own homes were newbuilds only a few decades ago, so what is so special about you now...? Is the site a field where you walk your dog? quite possibly, but it is not your field... is it? In addition, I will not be alone in having strong distaste for you using your innocent children to underpin your busybody & selfish argument. People need homes.
Maybe ask the landowner what they think - presumably they get a say in all this, or have the objectors shouted down their valid opinion too?

| There is nothing these people can do to stop this development now. What they should all do next election, is to put a Tory in. This is what the good people of Kersal have done, this election coming they will stick their 3rd Tory in. Forget any daft theories, the row in kersal was about the football club ,nothing else. The torys know they can never win Salford, they don't want to. However, once you have Tory councillors, for some reason, they seem to have some influence over the labour mob, they look after the people who vote for them. No doubt our Ray will be on shortly accusing me of being a closet tory. I have to come clean, I love our prime minister as much as I love Dennett and Merry. |
