BUILE HILL MANSION REFURBISHMENT WILL SEE DEVELOPMENT IN PARK DEPOT AREA

CAPITAL AND CENTRIC DEVELOPER PRESENTS 'IDEAS' TO SALFORD COMMUNITY Last night, at The Height Methodist Hall, Capital and Centric owner Tim Heatley gave a presentation to a public meeting of the Buile Hill Mansion Support Group on the future of the Mansion and surrounding land in the park. As the Group revealed the latest results of its community survey on future use for the Mansion, Heatley mooted ideas including the demolition of the nearby banqueting hall to relocate it within the Mansion, and to erect low density buildings in the depot area... At a public meeting of the Buile Hill Mansion Support Group at The Height Methodist Hall last night, the latest results of a survey run by the group were revealed from a response of over three hundred people... The most popular future use for the Mansion was as tea rooms, followed by a wedding venue, and museum and art gallery. But to enable anything to happen, it has to be 'cross-funded' by development in the depot area which had to provide an income stream, explained Tim Heatley, owner of developer Capital and Centric which has been in talks with Salford City Council over previous controversial plans.* "I'm here to help, I want to see the Mansion better used" he implored "I don't want to dictate...I'm not here to say 'This is what will happen'" Indeed, Heatley's presentation that followed showed almost nothing that hinted at future use for either the Mansion or the surrounding areas, except blocks of buildings within the depot area... "It's low density development with the use to be determined" he explained "I've no fixed views on what it should be but we have to create value from the new stuff to pay for the Mansion." While most of the slides shown just couldn't be read as the writing was so small, there was one that, on closer inspection, showed (hopefully) previous plans for 'Approximately 30 townhouses' and a 'boutique hotel' in the depot area (see photo). Last night, Heatley ruled out his preferred use for the area as a hotel because it "wouldn't work" and as artists' studios which would "not be viable". He insisted that there would be no development in the park itself, that the Mansion and developments would remain in the city's ownership and that plans would be "co-produced" with the community. "We have to press re-set on the park" he implored in developer speak "The park has stopped evolving and we need to make the next chapter." The depot site should have new buildings added to it and the next-door banqueting suite should be relocated into the Mansion to "get rid of that ugly building" he added "We're appraising options...Do we think anything will work?" A figure of £4million was mentioned to restore the Mansion, with £25million for the whole development, to be followed by a possible Salford Council bid to the Lottery to bring the park itself up to standard..."For me, it's not about the money" Heatley insisted, citing family and friends in the area where he grew up. Capital and Centric would hope to start on the project within the next twelve months, although when a resident asked Heatley at what point he may exit, he replied "If there's too much negativity and resistance, and it becomes mission impossible". The presentation, with non-specific use of low density development within the depot area, was well received by around two dozen people who attended the meeting, although the crux will come when people know exactly what actual use is being proposed... | Some good creative ideas from Margaret there, but as the regular dissidents here all know, Salford council have not got a clue. Just thinking though, it's all gone a bit silent about the Buille Hill site. Them council muppets must be up to something. I can always tell when they're plotting something. |

| Sunshine what would you like to know. We have held 4 public meetings so far. Thanks to the Star I found out about the proposed building of houses and we got an online petition which seems to have worked as the mayor put out a press release an hour before the first meeting saying there would be NO houses built in Buile Hill Park. We have an online and paper copies of the survey asking people for their input as to what they would like to see within the park, former stables area and the Mansion. I have had meetings with interested parties over the last couple of months. We are working with Tim Heatley from Capital & Centric,John Blackburn from Salford foundation and officers from Salford council. We will be having our next meeting on the 14th of November at the Height Methodist Hall. Please come along its a public meeting. Hope this has helped to answer your questions. |

Well, I feel more confident that at last we could be moving forward to seeing the Mansion back in public use. And fingers crossed a plan that ticks most,if not all boxes.
Next meeting is on Wednesday the 14th of November at the Height Methodist Hall 7.30.

( I am no Tory) This is because the labour party took for granted that the Scottish people were more solid Labour voters than even Salford people. | If you look at stardate 29th may, you will find that the council, who do not have the brains to clean out the gutters on this building, are stating the building needs £1.6million spending on it, a fairly exact figure. And the council officer has a detailed report to justify this. Now we are told by a labour party conference speaker developer that it is going to cost £4million to fix this building up.
Which figure is correct. Anyway, who cares how much it all costs? we all know the labour mob all know how to waste money. |

| Think Stephen you are being a bit negative. I think Tim and his company could be a life saver for the mansion and the park. Tim contacted the council,not the other way round, I am sure he did his homework before he did. He knew he wouldnt get an easy ride with the community, but went ahead anyway. If this doesn't happen, where do we go from here. The feedback so far has been very helpful and we haven't finished yet.we know it won't be housing, and Tim is not very keen on a hotel. We do need more people to come to our meetings to get a better overview of people's feelings,thoughts and ideas. I have asked at community committee for the proposals to go to all 8 community committees across the city. Buile hill park is our city wide heritage park.
