Only 1,041 people, or 11.76% of 8,851 eligible to vote, turned out at yesterdays' local by-election in Langworthy, won by Labour Party's Wilson Nkurunziza with a 'landslide' of 601 votes. The by-election, caused by the death of standing Labour councillor Paul Longshaw, was instigated by Michael Felse who stood as an Independent and polled just 55 votes. The full result was... | I'm sorry to hear about your brother, Michael. I do understand though how his illness will have had an impact on your ability to campaign in the recent local election. What I would say is simply, don't give up. Labour are an endangered political species. Trust me, you may only have got fifty five votes, but things can only get better. Get a team around you and plan your campaign strategy wisely. Don't let the jibes of pseudo intellectuals get you down. Trust me, they are all wind. They just talk, talk, talk. You on the other hand have a vision. You have a dream, and it can be accomplished, just don't give up. Marc? What does he know about life or, for that matter, anything. He's probably just a reader. | After the debacle in Langworthy we need to relook at how we can make any dents into Labours Majority if any. Ward by ward we see a mixed bag of candidates each taking valuable votes from each other surely with a simple strategy of standing in seats we have a chance we could make that break. What would be wrong in opposition groups meeting and agreeing to share out the seats leaving straight fights against Labour instead of fighting for scraps. Liberal Democrats,UKIP,GREENS,Tusk,Independents,Tory even raving looney I challenge the parties to meet and divide the city, other wise we will continue to see repeats of Claremont Langworthy and other wards repeated on a regular basis. |

| Thank you for asking RetiredS. I did say early in the election my brother was taken into Chesterfield's hospice. I will always put my family first and so sadly anticipate today to be his last day in this earth. He is extremely ill, now living on morpheme. I decided not to campaign or leaflet and say sorry to the people of Langworthy. They deserved better from me. Without being racist I do believe 450 votes went to Labour from the BME community standing at 28% in Langworthy I am told. In fact that means the Tory would have won in Langworthy. And it proves Salford Labour Party is doomed. Their traditional vote is collapsing with each passing week. My brother knows I stood and made me promise to stand again in May 2018. Therefore I am claiming the role of Salford UKIP President to make it so. Let us now all finish the job. |

| One Question that I would like to ask and please don't scream racist is simple,did Wilsons vote share come from the ethnic community? i know little of Langworthy except for the high numbers of ethnic families based there. The reason I ask is where did Labours Traditional vote go? even on a poor day you would expect at least another 600 votes on average. Mr Felse I would ask you why run under the banner of independent and fail to canvass the area surely this was the main reason you did so poorly I would have expected someone willing to actively campaign to gain the votes. The reality was Labour again got a very easy ticket. Like most on this site I follow the stories and the people I look forward to see if Wilson turns out to be another Labour disciple following the whip or perhaps have a pair. |

| Allow me to confirm there is zero chance of me joining Salford Labour Party. I can respect the national Labour Party for some interesting policies as I can praise National Tories on the safe pair of hands they have in number eleven Downing Street, but in Salford I cannot support either. People are seeing the truth, they know Salford needs a makeover. I look forward to handing over to the young and daring under 30s in Salford. In 2018 the way to go is to start handing control to our young generation. As Tutor of the Year at City and Guilds I am willing to offer them my guidance and support to build real hope into Salford's post Brexit future. |

| Not gullible in the slightest, I have a 7 figure business so I can see bullshit a mile away, although with Felse I can see hear and smell his bullshit from a hundred miles away!
When one looks closely at some of these posts, especially the ones praising felse, you can see the language used is almost identical (my forensic training kicks in) and it’s blatantly the same person (Felse) using different names.

Facts are people choose to vote Labour because they are satisfied with them. No council is perfect, even the Tory ones despite them being the only ones to not have savage cuts made to the extent of northern labour councils such as Salford. If you look at what is happening in Salford a lot of the ‘old guard’ are either dying or being deselected, and this is not the result of Corbynism, it’s the result of joe public getting pissed off, joining the Labour Party and then making changes (however slow and small) from within. It happened in my ward long before Corbyn, where we deselected our sitting labour councillor who was doing nothing for us. Granted we got another useless one in his place, but we made sure he did not stand again.
There is no point starting these little tin pot parties and trying for a David and Goliath battle because you aren’t going to win, join the party, attend the meetings and work from within! Oh wait, that sounds like too much hard work....will just come and rant on the star from the comfort of my living room instead! |

| Mr. Feise, Fizz, False - the reason that people do not come out to vote is that they are disillusioned by the crap that all you wannabe MPs spurt. Diplomacy is the key. We are offered a vote, if we choose not to use it we then lose our voice to some extent. I truly feel we have a good backbone in Salford. May I suggest you support it for the people or at least put up a valid competition. |

| I agree Paul. 2018 will be the turning point for Salford. I welcome more and new people stepppng forward as future Councillors. My one worry is the increasing level of abuse towards anyone wants to make progress. We have seen some disgraceful abuse and we know why the nasty cowards make such attacks. I personally am proud to have achieved 55 personal votes and to know the time is fast coming when local people will demand solutions for their votes. Looking forward to May 2018 here. |

| 8800 eligible voters living in Langworthy got only 600 votes for the new Councillor. 8200 did not vote Labour this year. A drop from the last election of 1800 Labour voters. Are Labour worried. Yes. They spent a staggering amount from depleted ward party cash to get the 600 votes with 2 election addresses, posters and cards. Leaving Langworthy in danger of having too little funds left to fight the May 2018 local election. Repeated across Salford, a trend of growing Labour voters turning all their backs on Salford Labour Party, projects seeing Labour Councillor seats lost right across all less working class wards. Serious problems ahead. |

Dearest Readers,
That time of the year has come round again – and I don’t mean Christmas – By Election Time in Salford!! It had completely slipped my mind, having been force-fed “brandy enhanced” mince pies by Matron at Salford Maximum Security Twilight Home for Active Aged’s Annual Christmas Concert featuring the Salford Labour Councillors Choral Ensemble, led ably by our Mayor, Mr Dennett, in true Panto-style thigh hugging tights! (Readers may be interested to know that the Salford Councillors Nativity Play which we was promised was postponed as the Producer was unable to find Three Wise Men or a Virgin but there were plenty of Asses up for audition!) But I digress… (an unfortunate condition of the elderly…so I have much in common with Salford’s Labour Councillors!).. and was reminded by the Bongs on News at Ten that it was By Election Night!!
Having gotten myself ready, I could not contain my excite as I trundled up to the Count on my trusty street-legal high performance scooter, suitably decorated with tinsel, flashing fairylights, reindeer antlers and assorted baubles. But shock horrors, having arrived not long after 11pm, the doors were firmly shut and the lights were out!! Presumably looking somewhat dumbfounded, confused and surprised, I was approached by a very helpful young man in an ill-fitting uniform who identified himself as the Acting Third Deputy Assistant Chief Maximum Security of Premises Enforcer Rambeau. Taking pity on me, Rambeau escorted me to his cabin by the Parking Barrier and administered me a rather nice cup of tea. He must have thought I was permanently suffering confusion and surprise! Asking about the Count, he told me that it was all done and dusted and everyone had gone home! I couldn’t believe it! Evidently an early night for the Elections Officer and his staff! To the strains of the “Red Flag” from a group of revellers, ambling along Chorley Rd, I consulted the Salford Council Website and there was the result! I had erroneously guessed that the speedy count was due to the extremely efficient counting staff…but I was wrong…(an experience to which I am not used!!) It was due to the extremely low turn out!
Whilst making my way back to the Salford Maximum Security Twilight Home for Active Aged in Irlams of the Height, I parked up in the Bus Shelter opposite Aldi, fairy lights a-twinkling. It must have been an entrancing sight, attracting a group of singers who turned out to be the Salford Labour Councillors Choral Ensemble evidently the worse for wear due to the “enhanced” mince pies! That’s the nice thing about inebriates, they say things that they shouldn’t! “Fooled the Voters again!” “Resounding Victory for Socialism – 58% of the vote!” and “Here’s to May” (elections presumably!), before they slumped down to the ground, sharing a couple of mince pies, “liberated” from Matron.
Manoeuvring my scooter around various bodies, driving home, I thought that Labour may have won the By Election but the real loser is democracy and that the newly elected councillor may be in office but not in power as he does not have the backing of the majority of Langworthy’s electorate. Not an unusual situation for the majority of Salford’s Labour Councillors. The only loser in this election was Democracy. And so dear readers, another wonderful year is drawing to close, so may I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Dennett New Year…plus ca change, c’est la meme chose!!!

| People didn't vote because they realise the sheer pointlessness of it. What would they get from it? Let's face it, nothing will change. In a place like Central Salford, which reminds me of a corrupt Southern state like Louisiana in the 1930's, voting is a waste of time. If anything, people NOT voting is, essentially, the Ultimate protest vote.
Felsey ... Felsey is obviously gutted. But let's face facts, he has no appeal to anyone. He's just wasting his time trying to be a Politico. He'd be far better off doing a bit of voluntary work in a charity shop or something similar. |

The first discussion that the newly formed council had was; whether to have the front door of the Town Hall opened for public access. |

| Poor turnouts are par for the course in many Salford wards.Local politics is pretty much dead in Salford and everyone knows it. And it's the dead weight of the 'Salford'wards that kills it. If you split off the old townships of Worsley, Eccles, Swinton etc you would have meaningful local politics and participation. Salford LA as it is is only good for organising bin collections and divvying up housing and benefits.As a forum for local politics and decision making it is a complete and unmitigated failure . And has been right been right from its inception in the '70's. It is a modern day 'rotten borough' politically . And one day it will probably be dismantled.

| I'm surprised that it ended up at 11%. When my family went to vote we enquired if it had been busy. The lady told us out of 600 people eligible to vote at our polling station there had been just 26 voters. And this was at 8pm. 7 of those were my family!! |

| I am delighted to have put Salford Labour to the test. The turn out proves less than 7% in a safe Labour seat wanted Labour. My, I had not expected a whopping 93% would reject Labour. It is a damaging day for Salford Labour. It tells us the less safer seats would see Salford Labour lose wards. Even the Mayor in 2020 will not be safe. The MPs would also see a real fight on for their seats. I praise the clean campaign and thank those who voted Felse. This result is a shout from the streets that 93% of local people are so sick of Salford Labour they prefer to not vote for Labour. If I was Mr Corbyn I would be very very worried by such a massive headache that gives the true picture that Labour is in real trouble today. I DEMAND Salford Labour Council listens.
