Sporting Memories, which has been running sessions in various venues throughout Salford and beyond, is launching a new weekly informal group at St Andrews Church in Eccles.
The group sessions are basically opportunities for sports fans living with dementia to discuss memories from matches and games, ranging from football to rugby, snooker, cricket and anything else
"These groups will be self-referring as they are informal, fun groups that are intended to help increase people's confidence and support network, and not clinical interventions" states Sporting Memories "That said, the ability to converse with other people is important, although techniques and resources will be used to support people to take part.
"It is our belief that there is a huge need for this, and our aspiration is that these groups will grow and develop into sustainable community assets" they add "But we also appreciate, and know from experience, that from small acorns do mighty oak trees grow and that these things can take time."
The weekly group starts on Friday 27th October, from 1pm until 2:30pm and then every week thereafter at St Andrews Church, Chadwick Road, Eccles, M30 0NZ
There are also weekly sessions starting in Trafford and Manchester
