Built from a campaign to stop the cuts to Salford mental health drop-in groups, the Cromwell House Users Group, or CHUG, is run by volunteers with support from Start In Salford and meets three times a week at the Salford Link Project on Chadwick Road in Eccles.
The group is self-funded and needs support to pay the rent on its rooms and provide better facilities for its members, so, amongst other fundraising projects, it's holding an Open Jam night next Friday, 6th October, at Wangies in Eccles.
"We are having a Open Jam night so anyone can come and get on stage if they want, and there'll be drums and guitars and all that so it should be a good night" says Susan Wright from CHUG "There's also a few from Trojan Horse coming so we might have a few of their songs too."
As well as the on-stage sing-songs and jams, there's a raffle, a lucky dip, guess the cake weight and three brave supporters are having their heads shaved to raise funds for the drop-ins, which are open three mornings a week for anyone who has, or has had, mental health issues.
"They can come to the drop-ins and talk about anything they want, or get support if they are struggling or having a bad day" Susan explains "It might be the only place they come and we might be the only people they talk to. We also have arts and crafts, a pool table and a snack bar...We have been going for over five years but our funds are now getting low."
The event at Wangies should not only be fun but is also for a top cause...
