ANONYMOUS CALLS FOR PROTESTS TO ‘BURN DOWN’ MANCHESTER TORY PARTY CONFERENCE

Star date: 14th September 2017

TOOLS: SMOKE GRENADES, FLARES, FLASHBANGS ETC
TACTICS: ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR. EXTRA POINTS FOR CREATIVITY

In posts on social media today, Anonymous has called for its backers to "burn down the oppressor" and "Demand justice at the Conservative Party Conference", in response to the "social murder" at Grenfell.

In another post, entitled 'Operation Party Over', the group states that its mission is to "prevent" the Conference, using tools like "smoke grenades, flares, flashbangs etc".

Anonymous has posted two memes on social media today with a chilling message for those attending the Conservative Party Conference, which runs in Manchester between 1st and 4th October.

In one post, with the headline 'Grenfell was social murder', the group states "If it's necessary we bally up burn down the oppressor, yeah we rally up". It is followed by the hashtag #OpPartyOver and #YourTimeIsUp.

In another post, titled Operation Party Over, Anonymous states that its mission is to 'Prevent the Conservative Party Conference Manchester'...

Targets, it adds, include Manchester Central, the Midland Hotel, the Hilton Hotel and Manchester Town Hall, and the Tactics are 'All is fair in love and war. Extra points for creativity'...

Tools, it states, are 'Black clothes, face coverings, locks and chains, smoke grenades, fares, flashbangs etc'.

Thousands of Tory delegates are expected at the Conference, while hundreds of thousands are expected to protest peacefully throughout the week, which begins with a huge demonstration against the Government on Sunday 1st October.

The Salford Star has asked The People's Assembly, which is one of the main organisers of the Tory Party Conference protests, for a comment on the Anonymous memes which will be posted as soon as it's received.*

There is a full programme of peaceful protests and events around the Conference which will be covered in full on the Salford Star  - Take Back Manchester Festival announced - click here

* Update: 15th September

The People's Assembly has now said that it doesn't want to comment as Anonymous is nothing to do with them and that their events are all peaceful and family friendly.

However, last night Salford Tory Councillor, Iain Lindley, got very angry on Twitter, arguing that the article was an "incitement to arson (and worse)"...and "an incitement to murder", and should be taken down. He copied the police into the tweets.

"Whatever our political differences...I hope we can at least agree that I don't deserve to be burned to death" he added.

First up, the Salford Star isn't encouraging the behaviour being advocated by Anonymous – this is merely a case of (pardon the pun) trying to shoot the messenger.

And, secondly, no, Iain Lindley doesn't deserve to be 'burned to death'...although he did get crucified at the last Tory Party Conference in Manchester for mockingly blowing kisses at disability protesters (see here), and won the Salford Star Mary Burns Tories Love Disabled People Award – see print issue 11

I am sure the Salford Star isn't the only news source that has written about the Anonymous Comment. It's all over Facebook too. Iain Lindley has got up on his high horse and made it out to be something more than it actually is. Idiot. All of those protesting on that Sunday will be about HUMAN RIGHTS!! So what would be the point of killing anyone? People just want to be heard....so if we cant't be...we'll make ourselves heard on Sunday. See you all there, Love & Peace!!...P.S. Salford Star couldn't hurt anyone...they need to stop picking on our freedom of speech.

The role of Salford Star is report news, even news which maybe seen as unpleasant by some folk. Because the Star reports something it doesn't mean it supports it. It always tries to get quotes from significant people who may have something to add. Readers need to be fair and objective before they criticise ' the messenger' .

Of course we don't encourage this sort of thing - waiting for a comment from People's Assembly

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO STOP THE STAR

Star date: 16th May 2021

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
