SALFORD CITY FC – SALFORD STAR TEAM OF THE YEAR 2009

Despite not winning a home game until March, and being 15 points adrift at the bottom of the Unibond First Division North with relegation a cert, Salford City turned it round and stayed up with a dramatic 5-2 victory at Garforth on the last day of the season. Surely one of the greatest footy escapes of all time, and well deserving of the Salford Star Team of the Year Award.

Meanwhile, this season, Salford City has thrilled its fans, getting within touching distance of the FA Cup 1st round having beaten Skelmersdale United, and Marine and Hyde from higher leagues, only going out to Blyth Spartans at the last gasp after a replay and extra time. In the FA Trophy the Ammies only lost by the odd last minute goal away at high flying Unibond Premier team Kings Lynn.

Salford City Chairman, Darren Quick, is constantly telling the club's fans to "keep those seatbelts fastened" – never have these words rang truer than in 2009 – it's been a thrilling, roller coaster ride that no Salford City fans would have missed for the world.
