SALFORD REDS LAUNCH SURVEY OF FANS' ATTITUDES

'Do you think the Club's heritage should play an important role in the Club's future?'

With fans' protests and speculation swirling around the city that Salford Red Devils are about to take 'Salford' out of the equation, the Club has launched, what it calls, "the largest research project in our 144 year history". The survey features questions like 'Do you think the Club's heritage should play an important role in the Club's future?' and 'What aspects of the Club's image do you think the Club should retain in the future'...

Last week's victory over Wigan Warriors put Salford Red Devils up to second in the Super League at the time. But while the team is doing better than it has done for years, off the field there were 'Salford Forever...Manchester Never' protests by fans responding to speculation that owner Marwan Koukash is poised to ditch Salford and take the club to Manchester (see previous Salford Star article – click here).

Yesterday, the Red Devils launched what it calls "the largest research project in our 144 year history", with the aim "to identify key growth areas for the club going forward, in order for us to reach our ambitions of being one of the dominant forces in British rugby league".

Former Salford star, Robbie Hunter-Paul, has been brought in to "consult and drive this project ahead"...

"The club has great ambition for the future which we're delighted is being realised on the field" he says in an address to fans "Our focus now is to compliment that success off the field. To achieve this, we are entering a phase of engagement and understanding with you the supporters. Your passion is something we want to keep at the heart of this process.

"Marwan brought me into the club to identify key aspects of our heritage and uncover what makes the club unique" he adds "This can then be used to realise the potential of our future. We are wasting no time and the research will be conducted in a number of ways, including face-to-face interviews, focus groups, and a mass digital survey...This is just the start of the journey in which your honest feedback will play an integral part of our growth."

The survey, which has been posted on the Red Devils' website*, includes questions like 'Do you think the Club's heritage should play an important role in the Club's future?'; 'What aspects of the Club's image do you think the Club should retain in the future?', and 'Please explain what you think the future of the Club looks like in five years time'...

All fans and those with an interest in the Salford Red Devils are being asked to fill in the survey...

See Ray Dix's comment, Salford is much more than a team it is our community.

Salford have consistently failed to market themselves well. To survive they need supporters from outside the City of Salford as well as attracting more local support. They may well go in to schools in the local area, but i live 3 miles from the Stadium in Irlam, use the Gym at the stadium but not once have I had any incentive to attend a game. They don't market well to the adult population (with the money to pay)

I feel I need to post this. I went to my first Salford game well over 20 yrs ago and got hooked. I then starting following them home and away usually on my own from Haughton Green, Glossop then Gorton, getting to know the faces of the small but loyal band of fans that went home and away before latching myself onto them. 13yrs ago I asked my wife Elicia to move to Salford with our children for the sole purpose of being nearer the rugby team. Our own marriage was arranged for the off season. Our youngest daughter is named after the then player/coach Bobbie Goulding. I was one of the 40 or so Salford fans at Gateshead that Wednesday night. Arriving back into Manchester at 6.00am Thursday morning after waiting for my connection in York for 2hrs at 2.30am. I've lost count of the number of family events/mothers days I've missed because they "clashed" with a Salford game. I had my own 40th birthday party at the willows a week late because on the day of my birthday Salford were playing in London so that's where I was. Ive met some amazing people over the years watching this team, some of which I think will be friends for life. So just because you don't see me running round with a flag round my neck or a streamer hanging out of my arse saying Salford forever Manchester never think this team means more to you than me, because I can assure you. It doesn't. Ray Dix

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
