Andy Burnham coasted home for the Labour Party to become Greater Manchester's first elected Mayor. Burnham won on the first ballot, with 63.41% of the vote, supported by 359,352 people.
Sean Anstee, for the Conservative Party, trailed well behind with just 22.72% of the vote, with the LibDem's Jane Brophy coming third with 6.06%, followed by Will Patterson for the Green Party who polled 2.37% of the vote.
UKIP and its controversial candidate, Shneur Odze, who refused to step down despite a sex scandal (see here), were absolutely obliterated, gaining just 1.87% of the vote.

The first reaction to Andy Burnham's victory came from Manchester Friends of the Earth, listing all the Labour Party candidate's promises, which were among many he made to the citizens of Greater Manchester...
"We welcome the commitments that Andy Burnham made to improve air quality, reduce climate change emissions, encourage renewable energy, improve sustainable transport and make Greater Manchester frack-free" said Ali Abbas from Manchester Friends of the Earth "But now we need urgent action to clean up our illegal polluted air and make Greater Manchester a thriving and sustainable low carbon, healthy and environmentally-just region."
