Despite the growing development of Salford, people are getting left behind to such an extent that the Mustard Tree charity, which runs food banks and clubs in Little Hulton and Eccles, has put out an urgent appeal as its stocks are running low...
"During 2016 Mustard Tree delivered over 21,000 meals in Little Hulton and Eccles through our various food operations, so the demand for food is extremely high" says Ian Welch, Salford Operations Manager "Whilst the provision of food and drink is essential, we use the act of eating together as an opportunity to listen to those who seek our support, with the ultimate aim of enabling people to escape poverty and homelessness for good.
"With annual increases in homelessness and poverty in Salford, we are finding a growing need for our food provision services and our food store is running low" he explains "We need your help so that we can continue providing this vital service. Any food donations made would be used to stock our Food Club and to make emergency food parcels for individuals and families in need of support."
The organisation is looking for donations of tins of meat, soup and veg; packets of pasta, rice, noodles and cereal; tea, coffee, biscuits, sugar and juice (see photo for full list) and toiletries like soap, cleansing wipes, tissues, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, deodorants, sanitary products etc.
This follows last year's appeal by the Salford Central Food Bank on Mocha Parade, when stocks also ran low because of demand outstripping supply (see previous Salford Star article - click here)
Supplies can be dropped off at either of the Mustard Tree's hubs in Little Hulton or Eccles*
