SIX CANDIDATES TO STAND IN SALFORD BY ELECTION

Star date: 5th February 2017 INDEPENDENT AND LIB DEMS JOIN FIGHT FOR KERSAL WARD With nominations now closed, six candidates have put themselves forward for the Kersal local ward by-election which takes place on Thursday 2nd March. As well as Labour, UKIP, Greens and Conservatives, the LibDems are standing for the first time in a while, and the Kersal Moor Residents Association is standing an Independent candidate as a protest against Salford City Council's perceived dissing of the community during the recent planning process for the stadium redevelopment of Salford City FC. With nominations for the Kersal ward by-election having closed on Friday, six candidates have announced that they will stand in the ballot which takes place on 2nd March. As well as the parties that stood last time – Labour, UKIP, Conservatives and Greens - the LibDems have come back from the Salford dead to put up a candidate. Meanwhile, the Kersal Moor Residents Association (KMRA) is standing an Independent candidate, Jonny Wineberg, in protest at the way the community perceived the actions of Labour Party held Salford Council during the planning process for the redevelopment of Salford City FC's stadium (see here). "The disrespect shown to the residents of Kersal and the unwillingness to involve us in plans for our own community are why KMRA selected Jonny Wineberg to stand in this by-election" states David Mintz, Chair of KMRA, adding that theirs is not just a single issue campaign but about giving "A real opportunity to have a residents' voice in local government..." The Labour Party is defending a 277 majority in the Kersal seat.

| There's only one real candidate that's the green party for me
Thank you for standing
I don't agree with many of your policies but I would not trust Labour or the Liberals or UKIP
Kersal ward has been deprived of funding for decades and there's little in the future
Why have the incumbents been so woefully complacent? |

| From what I've seen and heard on the streets of Kersal, Labour claims an "army" of activists are delivering leaflets, and bringing anyone who they think would be an asset eg The MP for Leigh and GM Mayor candidate, Andrew Burnham.
Labour and the Tories are haemorrhaging votes from what voters are telling me.
They MUST be worried!! Labour has begged UNITE Union to get its members to volunteer ! Interestingly enough, the UKIP Candidate, I understand is a committed Trade Unionist and a member of UNITE and I believe is a member of their NW Equalities Committee.
Labour's initial Leaflet was a grotty tatty DL-style photocopied effort with pictures of the two remaining Labour Councillors with a picture of the Labour candidate (wide-angled lens used), "the Labour Team", giving the impression that their candidate has already won!
Smells of "triumphalism"!
The Tories put out their usual A4 style leaflet to committed Tory voters.
Now, they have BOTH put out more leaflets - "glossy" "colour" leaflets ape-ing UKIP's snazzy punchy leaflets and mini-posters, after realising they are facing serious competition and a change in electors' voting habits. The Tories even copied UKIP's "trifold" albeit rotated horizontally!
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, especially when you know your goose is cooked!!
Looks like whatever the result, UKIP has set the cat amidst the political pigeons!!
But where is UKIP's invisible GM Mayoral Candidate, Shneur Odze?? Is he counting his chickens before they've hatched, abandoning the Mayoralty Campaign for his MEP seat in Strasbourg?? As he would become an MEP by the rule of succession of the Party List System. |

| I'm voting Independent because Jonny lives locally and has promised to involve locals with the issues. He can share generally unpublicized info with the locals so we all know what's coming which will give us the option to react. The local Labour team let us down dramatically recently by not sharing vitally important, life changing information. Everyone should consider voting for the area rather than the Party in the Local elections. I think Jonny Wineberg is a very bright and exciting option for us. |

| Why are the Libs/Cons standing, is it to head of any chance of Independent or UKIP from gaining a seat on the council? Split the vote? |

| Thank you wrote. Yes I worked in Kersal area for 3 years and I found them decent, trusting and honest. I have no interest in being bashed and thrashed in Labour's dominated Salford City Council chamber. I know the people of Kersal will think about what is right in these difficult times. And let me say one more Labour Councillor is not the answer. My advice to all my Kersal friends is vote anyone but Labour. Seriously, my advice is no joke. |

| I think national politics are fine for national issues and I will, therefore, vote for my choice of party when its General Election time, However, with local elections, I think one should vote for a person who knows the area well, preferably living in the area, understands its history and its mix of people and their concerns. He/she can then genuinely work for them. So I would want to know if each candidate really knows what are the issues for the area and if the policies of the Council are going to have any impact on them. |

| It is a great pity that Michael James Felse is not the UKIP candidate.
With his vast experience of the political scene he would be certain to be elected and thus able to start reforming Salford Council from the inside.
