It's been a year since the murder in Salford of homeless Daniel Smith and very little has changed. There are more people sleeping rough than ever before and those who have tried to seek refuge in empty buildings have been evicted by ruthless owners like the Co-op and Greater Manchester Pension Fund.
This Friday, 20th January, Salford and Manchester Street Support has organised a Remembrance Service near the scene of the murder for Daniel and other homeless people who have died on the streets of Salford and Manchester...
"Please come along and unite together to remember homeless people who have died in our cities – Ben, Daniel, James, Wayne, David, George and Tom" says Street Support's Angela `Penny' Barratt "These people won't be forgotten. How many more have to die before people who have a duty of care wake up? What if it was their family?"
The event is not only to remember those who have died but also to draw attention to the plight of those still out on the streets this winter...
"They say there's not enough money for housing and support but they should help to open up empty commercial buildings" Angela adds "Ticking boxes and talking crap while people suffer is pushing us all to despair. 2017 is Dark Age Britain."
