SALFORD TEENS TAKE ON THE QUEEN FOR CHRISTMAS DAY

Star date: 23rd December 2016

THE TEENS SPEECH TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS

Three working class teenagers from Salford have joined with others from Greater Manchester to take on the Queen with their own Teens' Speech, which will be released at 3pm on Christmas Day.

Amongst issues they will be addressing are the shocking murder of Jo Cox, the refugee crisis, and the Northern Powerhouse... "But amongst their disappointment, they will give you hope for the New Year" states the #TeamFuture campaign.

"You won't hear these words from the house of the Queen,
Now you'll hear them from the voice of a teen..."

As nasty, nasty 2016 draws to its horrid conclusion, a group of working class teenagers from Greater Manchester are preparing to throw down the gauntlet to the establishment, with their own Teens' Speech - to be broadcast on YouTube at 3pm Christmas Day, the same time as the Queen is mouthing off to the nation.

Three of the #TeamFuture are from Salford, and two of them, Hamaad and Samantha, appear in the video, which tackles issues from the murder of Jo Cox, to the Northern Powerhouse, to refugees, UKIP, Corbyn and May, all done in a poetic style, calling on young people to sort the mess out.

`So we ask you to join our #TeamFuture campaign,
We're creating a movement, fighting for change,
Leaders must reflect what all people need
From country estates to council estates, we ALL must lead...'

"The world says it's trying to get young people to take action" says Samantha, 15, "#TeamFuture is ready to take a lead in political discussions"..."They're making big decisions on our lives, but they've never lived our lives" explains Shawnee, 16, while Elijah, also 16 adds: "My motivation to change the world is based on living through the challenges and hardships I've faced. I intend to go as far as I can with no limitations, and to take others with me..."

#TeamFuture is a new social movement, campaigning for bold, ethical and hopeful leadership, that strives, it states, "to hold leaders to account in decision making, give voice to the voiceless, and end leadership inequality"..

The Teens' Speech will be broadcast at 3pm on Christmas Day via YouTube on the RECLAIMmanchester channel – click here

Excellent tribute to young people. I hope this goes viral and starts a new wave in cohesive democracy. A hard year with my 92 year old dad in intensive care hospital - I hope our young team will do a line about Social Care needs and wish my dad Bernard peace.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
