BOYCOTT DOGS4US CRANKS UP PRESSURE ON SALFORD COUNCIL WITH MORE PROTESTS

Star date: 30th October 2016

SALFORD PRECINCT AND AGECROFT ROAD STORE TARGETED

"...remove the stain of puppy farming from the otherwise great reputation of the Salford community" Boycott Dogs4Us

As Salford City Council mulls over proposals to clamp down on pet shop license conditions, the Boycott Dogs4Us campaign staged two protests today, at Salford Precinct and outside the Dogs4Us store on Agecroft Road.

Aran Mathai, founder of Boycott Dogs4Us, urged the Council to take "more significant action to prevent the sale of puppy farm dogs".

With a consultation now closed on Salford City Council's proposals to improve animal welfare in the city by imposing stricter conditions for granting pet shop licences, the Boycott Dogs4Us campaign staged two protests today to keep the pressure on for the Council to go further.

Amongst the amendments to current regulations being considered are a tightening up on the expertise of those who sell animals, increased training for those who handle animals, provable humane transport of animals to shops, a clampdown on the treatment and sale of ill animals, and an improvement of the condition in which animals are kept.

However Boycott Dogs4Us believes the conditions don't go far enough...

"While we welcome the intent behind Salford Council's proposed amendment to pet shop license conditions, we call on them to take more significant action to prevent the sale of puppy farm dogs" the campaign's founder, Aran Mathai, told the Salford Star "We hope councillors will continue to engage with our campaign to remove the stain of puppy farming from the otherwise great reputation of the Salford community."

Supporters of Boycott Dogs4Us staged a protest and handed out leaflets on Salford Precinct, before heading to the Dogs4Us store on Agecroft Road, where people in cars stuck in a roadworks traffic jam rolled their windows down to take leaflets and hear arguments in favour of shutting the place, which has been exposed on mainstream tv due to its links with puppy farms.

Amongst those outside the store protesting was Mary Parker who bought her dog Tuppence from Dogs4Us... "He had major health and behaviour problems and would not get on with other dogs or children no matter what I tried or did" she recalled "He had a horrendous death and cost me £2,500 in vets fees.

"Doing my research, I found out that he was from a puppy farm in Northern Ireland" she added "I did speak to Dogs4Us and went in with the information I'd acquired but they turned around and just said `It's nothing to do with us'. I would say to Salford Council that the legislation needs to change, that there needs to be more regulation of puppy farms, which should not exist anyway, and that Dogs4Us needs to be shut down."

@clare just watched the YouTube link on Nicola Robinson at Leeds branch of D 4 us a very brutal attack.A lot more to this woman than meets the eye. She's far too vocal and violent too. Watching her rants on the net and beginning to think it's not about puppies merely a malicious ploy in an attempt to discredit the business and its owner,... The boycotters are seeing her in true colours, the way she speaks she's not credible. Nobody would work four years in a place that was allegedly that bad. Pull the other one !

Alan, You are still not guaranteed that the pups parents that are in the home are the real parents. Also the KC breeding scheme is not keeping up with the promise of tighter control over its registered breeders with a vast percentage still not inspected or were inspected many years ago, making KC breeders in essence unregulated.

Bryan, the traditional way to find a puppy is to go directly to a breeder or go to a shelter. Going to a pet shop means you are buying from a puppy farm the same goes for online third-party dealers.

Pete Brown wrote about Pet shops selling puppies? This is the traditional way to find a puppy/pet and has been the way since the birth of the pet shop. Or are you saying that it is Ok to buy a puppy the modern way via the internet which is unregulated and where the majority of puppy farm animals are sold. Don't understand your logic in what you say 'hounding the protestors' I don't think I've ever heard a story of pet shop staff protesting outside where the protestors live etc etc

@Anne.Nicola robinson is a former employee of dogs 4 us, apparently she worked there over four years and went back several times. She professes she was gathering evidence all the time she was there. it doesnt stack up really you wouldnt last four days let alone four years. she isnt convincing anyone not even the boycotters, this silly woman is in it for the glory and i reckon its all a personal vendetta because someone said she could not get her job back.

One of the purposes of these kinds of protest I should imagine is to educate people about where to get a puppy. I got a leaflet about puppy farming years back and it made me re-think and go to a rescue. Both the pet shops and online sellers need addressing, it's not either or.

@Pete You won't stop people from wanting and buying puppies even if you ban pet shop sales, thousands of pups are sold online nowadays with no checks at all and most private breeders aren't even licensed. @Jasmin, who is Nicola Robinson ?

I was driving past on the day of this protest and was given a leaflet while waiting in traffic. I was shocked to find out where the puppies at Dogs4Us are from. I was regular customer up until now but have notice that it has been quite empty lately, probably the message is getting across to people. I won't be going back that's for sure!

The hilarious attempts by Dogs4Us(aka Ray McCadden) to pose as actual commenters are ludicrous. He has been doing this for years with fake blogs, websites and even posting pictures of the homes of anyone that criticizes or protests against his puppy farm pet shop. He is a very nasty dangerous person, as are all those involved in the puppy farming industry! There are campaigns focused on Parliament on a national level such as PupAid and local campaigns focused on Councils such as Boycott Dogs4Us. The net is closing in on all those involve in this evil trade.

Dear ann It is apparent Mr Mathai cant give you a straight answer to your question. Maybe he is unemployable due to his criminal history? The majority of pups sold are done on the internet where there is no one to see what is going on, in other words not governed by any animal welfare legislation. There must be hundreds of thousands sold via the black market. It would seem you are not having much impact considering your turn out was very poor by the look of your pictures :(((

Sounds like dogs4us is finally on its last legs :) legal maybe but an immoral and unethical practice of selling pups mass bred from puppy farms. These pups are often ill or have behavioural issues from being taken from mum too soon and from lack of human contact. The sooner this sh*t hole is closed down the better. Bye bye McCaddens you may want to be looking for proper jobs now:)

Aran, I am not Dogs4us nor anything to do with them, I was asking a straight forward question and yes my name really Is Anne. I have been following all this Boycott stuff for a for a while now and cannot understand why you are not lobbying parliament ? Glad to know you are employed as so many of these Animal activists are not!

Hi "Anne". Dogs4Us is the largest third-party pet shop selling puppies. You have been exposed on national television twice. What you do is legal (for the most part) but highly unethical, like other forms of factory farming. I am gainfully employed thank you, good to know Dogs4Us is taking notice of our campaign!

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
