Back in the day, hands in the air on some sweaty Hot night down at the Hacienda, if someone had whispered that almost three decades later a classical orchestra would set it all to violins and stuff, you'd think they'd had one too many Es...
...Or maybe they did, and that's how it all came about. Whatever, the series of Hacienda Classical concerts have been really popular, complete with Hooky on bass, original Hac DJs, Graeme Park and Mike Pickering, spinning the rust, and the Manchester Camerata orchestra raving the violas. Rowetta even guests on You Got The Love, and the AMC Choir provide more vocals.
Throughout packed concerts at the Albert Hall, Bridgewater Hall and elsewhere, a Channel 4 team was making a documentary, the Hacienda House Orchestra, which is to be screened this Thursday very, very late at just past midnight.
And then Friday sees the launch of the Hacienda Classical album which showcases the entire live set, including tracks like Blue Monday, Voodoo Ray, Good Life and Ride On Time...
"This is one of the most challenging journeys I've ever undertaken in my musical career, both the live shows and putting the album together" says Hooky, Exec Producer of the album "But now looking back and listening to the recording, all the hard work has paid off."
