Next Saturday, 17th September, the Salford store of Dogs4Us on Agecroft Road is to, again, come under the spotlight for its links with puppy farms and the treatment of animals in its care.
Recently a dog called Benji died after boarding at Dogs4Us, despite being fit and healthy. His guardians said payment was taken with no explanations or apologies and Benji was left lying uncovered and surrounded by his own excrement.
Meanwhile, the company has constantly been linked to trading dogs from puppy farms and the last demo on Agecroft Road, in June, was backed by Salford and Eccles MP Rebecca Long Bailey and attended by two Salford councillors, Paul Wilson and Howard Balkind, who called on Salford City Council to investigate and, if necessary, remove the trading licence from Dogs4Us.
Nothing has been heard since, but the protests against Dogs4Us continue. On Saturday there will be a big Boycott Dogs4Us rally at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester at 1pm to mark International Puppy Farm Awareness Day.
There will be speakers and leaflets will be handed to the public to raise awareness about the puppy farm industry and Dogs4Us involvement in it. There will also be a two minute silence to remember all the dogs that have died as victims of puppy farming.
After the rally, campaigners will travel to Salford for a further demonstration outside the Dogs4Us store on Agecroft Road, Pendlebury, which should be between 4:30pm and 5:30pm.
"Puppies on puppy farms are kept in windowless sheds without light, heat or human kindness, they are also over-bred leading to health issues for their pups" explains Aran Mathai, founder of Boycott Dogs4Us "Pet shops such as sell these dogs on at a huge mark-up, with puppies often dying soon after purchased.
"We urge the public to always go to a shelter to adopt a dog or puppy, which will be health checked, vaccinated and cost much less than a puppy from a pet shop or breeder" he adds "Shelters have all kinds of breeds and ages available including many Pedigree puppies. If you must go to a breeder, never buy unless you can see the puppies interacting with their mother."
