SALFORD HOUSE OF LORDS

Lord Morris of Manchester, former Alf Morris MP for Wythenshawe, is currently under media investigation for arguing that his small main home is in Salford, while claiming £100,000 in allowances for a second home in London.

Full story here…

The Salford Star has been trying to find a local `peer of the realm' for ages…someone to represent the city in the House of Lords.  We didn't think there were any but now, it seems, we've had one tucked away down a quiet cul-de-sac for years.

Lord Morris argues that his small Salford house was his main home until April last year, allowing him to claim £100,000 for his `second home' in Dulwich, south London.  However, when journalists have visited the Salford cul-de-sac they haven't been able to find anyone who has ever seen him there. They only know that his son uses it when staying over to see Man United.

Morris says that he bought the house in 1997, before he knew he was going to be a Lord, that people might not have seen him because he was always at the back of the house and that "It's a wonderful place for us, because it's about 600 yards from where my mother was born ... and about three quarters of a mile from where I was born...We are absolutely at home there…"

This Salford connection of Lord Manc-land has never been unearthed before.
According to his Wikipedia biog, Alf, now 81, was raised in Ancoats and later moved to Newton Heath. There doesn't appear to be any Salford roots at all, except for his little `main home'…

Lord Morris has been cleared of any accusations regarding his second home enquiry. In my opinion we should reflect and concentrate on the exceptional compassion and humanity that this gentleman has shown in his long and outstanding career, his tireless campaigning for the disabled, the thalidomide victims, the gulf war veterens and his work with the haemophilia society. i have only just learnt of these accusations and reading Annie Ayres comments infuriated me, hence this rant. This man is 82 now i believe and still goes to the house of lords most days, obviously his unselfish passion for the less fortunate is still very much evident, he is to be respected and cherished for one of the few politicians that in his long career actually delivered. As for his son daring to stay at his dads house when he watches man utd,get a life ms Ayres , at least he is not a chelsea supporter.

The point is that the vast majority of MPs , MEPs , LOCAL COUNCILLORS , LORDS are all quite prepared to milk the taxpayer , break the rules and commit fraud . This has gone on for many years . There are a small minority who did not milk the taxpayer , but the vast majority have , and still go unpunished . AND THEY ARE STILL DOING IT . The entire system is corrupt , and these people are rotton to the core . When wil they face justice and be jailed like the rioters ? NEVER . So thats one law for these corrupt scum , and another law for the sheeple .

Here we go again. So his son stays there when he comes to see Man U. How nice for him. We're providing a little holiday home for a Man U fan. It's unlikely that Lord Morris ever stays there and what on earth is he claimin £100,000 for? It's just greedy interpretation of the rules for claiming expenses. I can imagine them sitting on their fat backsides in their private clubs .... 'pur i' down as expenses, I do, pass me tha cucumber sarny will ya ....' but they're still keeping their jobs.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
