Next Sunday, 3rd July, the Friends of Kersal Moor will be holding their annual summer fete, this year titled Flap Caps and Flappers to remember some of the features of the 1920s, with the Friends dressed to recall wild Charlston music, and the workers who suffered the Great Depression commemorated by flat caps.
The mood will be light hearted however, with a street musician, one-man-band, jugglers, street vendors, Besses Brass Band and a café, with home-made cakes and more. There will also be a coconut shy, Lucky Dip and a special photo booth (bring a camera or mobile phone).
There's an information tent displaying the history of the Kersal Moor, covering everything from the Chartists to the race goers who came to the Moor from the 1600s to 1847, where books and cards featuring the historic space can be purchased. Elsewhere there are stalls run by the Friends of the Earth, Salford Health Improvement Team and others selling local honey, hand-made cards, second hand books and unusual jewellery.
"It will be an afternoon of free fun for children and adults, on this beautiful Moor, which is always a delight to visit" says event organiser, Alice Searle "The Friends of Kersal Moor was formed to preserve the Moor, celebrate its conservation status and remember its historic past.
"We alternate our themes to focus on either the environment or its history" she adds "This year we are moving from the Victorian era to the Georgian 1920s. We are not a large group but we work hard to make it a lively afternoon with simple pleasures."
