The majority of Salford people voted to leave the EU by a 13.6% majority in yesterday's referendum. The full results were... Remain: 47,430
Leave: 62,385 Majority: 14,955 - 56.8% Votes cast: 109,926 (111 void votes)
Turnout: 63.3%

| Now that David Cameron has fallen on his own sword and it appears that Jeremy Corbyn may be pushed on to his, perhaps it's time for Salford Councillors Garido and Warmisham (and any others who led the "Remain" Campaign in Salford) to take the honourable course and fall on their swords, put their money where their mouths are and resign.
This would trigger local by elections, giving a chance for them and other councillors, to assess the strength or otherwise of their parties' support.
At the Count on Thursday at the AJ Bell Stadium, it was interesting to note the absence of Labour or Conservative "Leave" campaigners and only a comparative handful of "Stay" campaigners, compared with election counts. Of course, their Parties controlled the allocation of tickets. It is true that there were only an handful of official "Vote Leave" campaigners but they were an ebullient bunch and raised the roof. Incidently, NO UKIPpers appeared to be present but apparently they formed part of the Vote Leave contingent.
Congratulation go to the Elections Office for their efficiency.

If the EU Referendum Result had been reversed with 48% voting “Leave” and 52% voting “Remain”, how many would be signing digital petitions for a re-run?
How many in England and Wales would be demanding a Referendum to leave the UK as they were being shackled to Scotland, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar and the EU because the number of “Remain” votes in these areas had tipped the balance in favour of remain, or a Referendum re-run?
Would Nicola Sturgeon be looking for an excuse to demand a second Independence Referendum because the result of the first Referendum was not to her or her Party’s liking? Leanne Wood seemingly has accepted the Referendum outcome as it affects Wales.
But that’s democracy for you! You can’t demand a re-run because you don’t like the result!
Everyone – from those in the highest echelons of political power to the “wo/man in the street” - needs to accept the outcome of the Referendum and stop complaining because the result was not to their liking.
Perhaps the blame for all arising controversies, claims and counterclaims lies at the door of Electoral Commission as a result of the enabling legislation for the Referendum; only the result of the total number of votes cast should have been made available in the public domain but still permitting local scrutiny at counts. It was a National Vote on a National Issue and local voting patterns – sub-nationally, regionally and locally have no bearing; it is the focussing on these that is causing all the controversies as well as demographic claims based on age etc.
I’m thinking of starting a digital Petition for a re-run of the 2015 General Election and the 2016 Langworthy (Salford Actually(!) not Manchester) Council Election and the rest of Salford (Actually!) council elections because I did not like the result. Any supporters?
Absurd, isn’t it.
The sign of a mature democracy is the acceptance of the results of Elections, Plebiscites and Referenda by voters acting in an adult manner and living in the real world, not immature persons of any age living in a digital world and feel themselves to be Spreadsheet wizards!
Get real, grow up, accept the result, bite the bullet and take it on the chin and any other applicable phrases… like many others have! We may not have liked the result, we may have liked it!
1.3 MILLION more voted to “Leave” than “Remain”. Their view cannot be ignored.
But just accept result and let’s get the best exit deal for Great Britain!

I would not deign to educate aseemingly erudite person such as yourself but would like to take the opportunity to enlighten you and our fellow followers.
Liberalism and Liberanarism are wide ranging concepts from "liberal" "liberantarialism" to "liberantariantistic" "liberalistic".
Such wide ranging "rainbow" definitions permit one to hold personal views varying from Communist/Neo-Communist/Trotskyist/Anti Stalinist view points to those held by the "former" Liberal Party of the UK and even so far to the "Right" as those concepts held by "one Nation" Tories, believe it, or not!
"Laissez faire" is not a "bad" concept, neither is "small" government as both can be challenged in Parliament or at General Elections, depending on political or sociological circumstances.
Because of the above, "pragmatism" would be the better (note: "better" NOT best" approach to weighing up issues that arise. (cf Harrold WILSON.
You strike me as a pragamtic rather than a "politically' 'correct' person.
BUT all this to one side, don't you agree that too many do not accept the realities of democracy i.e. the REAL vote is in the Ballot Box and NOT the cyber on line proponents who claim that the result is "unfair" because more than ONE million votes voted for cessation from the EU/EC/EEC/Common Market?
The result is undeniable... more than 1 million of the electorate has voted for "Leave" as opposed to remain.
True democrats will accept this.

| All I've heard up till know from the left, BBC lbc radio, etc is the world is going to end, sure were going to go throught some bad times, but we've had them before, we've had them throughout our history. You lefties need to look to the future and I see a bright future, stop talking this great country down, think posative and not as you always do, thinking on the nagative side. If you want to think nagative and wallow in misery then go live in Europe, th'd love you. The futures so bright, I've got to wear shades, as the song goes. Ps time to have a good clear out of all the nagative people in parliament, this goverment needs visionaries not doom mongers and harbers of death. |

Respect the wishes of the people and get on with it. Europe had a chance to keep us in and they told us to fuck off, so we have. Let Germany pay for the reck that is Europe, they want to run it, they can have it. Denmark, the Dutch and France are next, seems Germany are going to cop for the bill. |

| This is a result which I fear the people of
Salford will come to regret in the coming months and years. A victory of fear over hope,
pig headed nationalism over enlightened internationalism ; the Nineteen Fifties rather
than the Twenty Fifties!
Locally Labour needs to prepare to decisively defeat the UKIP barbarians in next year's local and
mayor elections. Elected members need to stop sitting on the fence and actively oppose Tory Austerity, including where necessary, defecit financing to protect what remains of the social infrastructure.
On a national level, Labour needs to conduct a root and branch investigation into the state of the party and councils in the North East of England.

| Well done UK. The people have voted against the establishment, bankers, politicians, big business and an undemocratic EU. I was a believer in the founding principles of the EU. That is not the EU of today and not one planned for the future. This could be the turning point in EU history, it either starts to listen to the people of Europe or the whole project will be dead and buried in 5 years. We have taken a brave but necessary step towards a better UK. Big Business, the EU and the political class now need to understand that project fear back fired and there is even less turst than ever before. |

| The People Have Made Their Decision – Standing on the threshold of a new world of opportunity
The people have made their decision and it is important for “Brexit” Supporters to be magnanimous in victory, remembering that large minority voted to remain.
The Referendum has made for some strange alliances and bedfellows.
Our main function now is to maintain pressure on the Government and EU, being the conscience of both and aim in the short term is to ensure the Nation’s choice is carried out by the Government and the EU.
That won’t be easy as the Government and Opposition are fractionalised and in the Commons, disaffected MPs can make mischief by blocking the enabling legislation. Likewise too, the EU Commission and Parliament can veto the final negotiations.
The fractionalisation and in-fighting of the main parties may lead to an early General Election. It is up to UKIP to stand by its policies and principles.
Many – wrongly – see UKIP as a “one trick” “anti-immigration” Party. Nothing could be further from the truth if they take the time to read our raft of policies and take time to remind ourselves of them. These policies promote:
• A countrywide application of policies, and not unfairly centring resources in various locations;
• Fair and equal application of laws, not favouring particular groups;
• Liberalism of “small” Government, economical “laissez faire”, personal responsibility with inbuilt safeguards to protect the less fortunate.
Above all, we have to remember that Victory in the Referendum is the first step on our long journey to reclaim our position in the world as the beacon of freedom, trade and equality and fairness for all.
