Striking against `bullying' and `harassment'

Postal workers manning the picket lines in Salford and Eccles today were in good spirits as the strike moved into its second day.

Only managers crossed the picket lines at the Salford and Eccles postal depots and were struggling so much that pickets themselves had to remind one of the managers driving a van that he hadn't got his seat belt on. One of the picket line posties told the Salford Star…

"Management are imposing workloads staff can't handle. The problem is that even if their ideas don't work in practice, they try to make them work through bullying and harassment.

"Too many people are promoted to positions of management, not because they are good at the job but because they are loyal and are prepared to force through changes whether they make sense or not" he added "If these changes being proposed now go through, the public will start getting their mail later and later and we don't want that."

The strikes are set to continue until the postal workers get some justice…

I really sympathize with the posties. I used to have to get up at 4am to go the local depot and half the time I was told there was no work so I'd have to go home, with no pay. A victory for the posties would be a victory for all of us, and a chance to turn back the tide of rampant capitalism promoted by both the Tory and "Labour" parties alike. Victory to the postal workers!

Many of the actions used by protesters at the Barton Moss anti-fracking demonstrations in Salford were outlawed by a judge at Manchester Civil Justice Centre yesterday, including slow walking, lock-ons and any obstruction of the highway.

The judgement, in relation to Cuadrilla's fracking site on Preston New Road, Lancashire, has implications for all anti-fracking protests... "This is an incredibly sad day for the right to protest peacefully" said Jonathan Bartle, co-leader of the Green Party.
