`DETESTABLE’ SALFORD UKIP EXPOSED BY OWN ELECTION CANDIDATE

Star date: 15th April 2016

BOOTHSTOWN AND ELLENBROOK UKIP CANDIDATE WITH INTEREST IN FASCIST MOSELY SLATES OWN "DETESTABLE" PARTY

On the eve of the local election, Salford UKIP's candidate for the Boothstown and Ellenbrook ward has written an `expose' of the party, calling the local branch a "detestable club of self-interested, political aspirants; hiding away their skeletons".

UKIP's Joseph William Evans also alleges that he was "asked on numerous occasions to invite any black or brown friends that I may have to our meetings in an effort to convey that we are supported by all people". He also claims that his interest in eugenics and the ideas of fascist, Oswald Mosley, were "suppressed" by the party. UKIP's Salford Mayor candidate Owen Hammond says he is "bemused"...

With just under three weeks to go to Salford's local election, UKIP's Boothstown and Ellenbrook ward candidate, Joseph William Evans, has written `An Expose of the Salford Branch' in a Wordpress blog.

Evans argues that, after a year as a UKIP activist in the city, he had to unburden himself...

"I feel that they, in their essence, are presenting a likeable image to the electorate; when actually, what is lurking behind the curtain of UKIP Salford (and perhaps of UKIP itself) is a detestable club of self-interested, political aspirants; hiding away their skeletons, and of whom, for that reason, are lying to the average voter" he writes.

`Revealing' what most people in Salford's political world already know... "that the bulk of those nominated to stand for election to council, under UKIP's name, are former Lib Dem, Conservative councillors and former Green candidates", he adds that "The policies of these parties are so greatly opposed that only one motive could be behind such a flip: self-interest. These candidates seek not to help the Salford people, but only to be elected.

"...But what I probably despise most, or that at the very least makes me cringe, is the desperate attempts of the Salford branch to dispel its image of being a racist party" he writes "I have, for instance, been asked on numerous occasions to invite any black or brown friends that I may have to our meetings in an effort to convey that we are supported by all people; and not just by white people.

"It is a highly pathetic aspiration" he adds "If a political party truly is not a racist party, then it shouldn't have a problem with having no black people – or, in an alternate case, with having no white people. Rather it should be satisfied with whom it has managed to attract, and be able to see those attracted on the basis of their human spirit and not racial type."

As far as `human spirit' goes, Evans claims that his support for eugenics and interest in fascist Oswald Mosely were `suppressed'...

"There has been made great efforts to suppress the individual thoughts of our members and candidates" he states "I, for instance, am I supporter of eugenics and am also particularly interested in the ideas of Oswald Mosley and have published two books on Amazon expressing such views. Since their publication, I have been asked to stop my marketing efforts.

"Is this not a democracy?" he asks "For a party which claims not to be made up of career politicians, to censor its members' thoughts, likes and dislikes, is totally disagreeable and wholly contradictory. The people deserve, inwards and outwards, to know exactly who and what they are voting for.

"With a little research (this information is available online, but for it to come from an official UKIP candidate, I thought, might deliver more of a blow) it can even be revealed that some candidate(s) have committed electoral crimes in the past" he adds "or more exactly, the theft of registration documents."

Unsurprisingly, Evans concludes "I am no longer a UKIP supporter. I may be on the ballot in Boothstown and Ellenbrook, but my heart certainly isn't...."

Salford UKIP's mayor candidate Owen Hammond, this afternoon admitted that he was `bemused' by the rant...

"It's disappointing" he said "You trust someone and they let you down...I just can't imagine why he's done this. It was only a week ago that he handed me his nomination form and it was signed by his own sister..."

On the candidate's `interest' in eugenics and Mosely, Hammond added that "he had gone through the UKIP vetting procedure...and I understood they followed all his doings online and whatever he'd written, so I don't know what he's talking about. I'm lost for words. We don't support Mosely or eugenics. I'm totally bemused.

On the allegation that Evans was encouraged to bring "black or brown friends" to meetings, Hammond said he was just being a good organiser... "I can't see what is wrong with encouraging young people into the branch" he said "Why he should complain that I asked him to bring his friends, whether coloured or not...what is the point? I was doing my job."

On the allegation that UKIP was full of `self-interested' candidates, Hammond added; "Yes there are ex Lib Dems and Greens and they want to do something for the community and think this is the best vehicle for it", while on the alleged electoral fraud by a candidate, he added "This, of course, was a famous and misguided attempt by our candidate in Broughton, many years ago when he was a member of the Conservative Party in London, trying to prove how easy it was to submit a fraudulent postal vote, and instead ended up being charged himself."

Now Hammond will attempt to get Evans' name and UKIP candidacy removed from ballot papers..."A week ago he was mad keen to be a UKIP candidate so what's changed, I don't know" he said.

He's now deleted his Wordpress blog and his personal Facebook page but left his "Evansian" facebook profile there. I guess he's referring to his views as [his own surname]-ian. How self-important. The way he wants everyone to know his middle name too. He does look very young. There's something be said for using anonymous image boards to live out this twerpy teenage phase.

Recently read UKIP's policies which clearly state that they will work for the benefit of ALL. Having also met many of the Salford (and other areas) group, they come across as a team working very hard for the general benefit of all within the various communities etc. I have never felt that any members of UKIP have only had their own interest at heart. As with any group/team/employee/club etc etc, there will always be a maverick amongst their numbers. Having looked at the vetting process of most political parties, UKIP's is certainly one of the more robust and fair systems in operation today. Maybe it is fortuitous that Mr. Evans has made his decision prior to elections - read into that what you will....

I learnt a long time ago to believe nothing I read about politics, but WOW, your praise for the UKIP Mayor candidate is to be applauded. Owen Hammond is standing hands above all with praise such as yours. I would ask Mr Hammond to ensure his success sees a Collective Executive Committee from across society, and yes I certainly include The Greens in my call.

His blog reads like some "edgy" 4chan teenager playing at politics. I hope his internet presence doesn't haunt him too badly if he ever grows out of being such a berk.

Not much of an expose, is it? Nutty candidate complains that UKIP Salford branch are "desperate" not to seem like racists, and that they disapprove of Oswald Mosley and eugenics.... Is this somehow supposed to reflect badly on them? The only real worry it raises (yet again) is the quality of UKIP's candidate vetting procedures.

Should also point out that there is considerable support for those with an anti-immigration stance by 'black or brown' people from established generations of immigrants. This has even been on the BBC, on the late night debates with Nigel Farage around the last election - nobody probably watched these. Plus my own 'black or brown' friends have said as much.

"a detestable club of self-interested, political aspirants; hiding away their skeletons, and of whom, for that reason, are lying to the average voter" Hmmm, thought you were talking about the Labour camp there? And as for currying favour with 'black or brown' people, that's Labour all over - anything but the downtrodden white working class they are supposed to help.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
