It's national Postal Workers Day tomorrow, Monday 14th December, which celebrates the hard work and dedication of hundreds of thousands of women and men who collect, sort and deliver letters, parcels and packets for everyone.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) wants to use the day to get the general public to thank their hardworking postie, either in person, or using social media and tweeting messages of support using the hashtag #PeoplesPost.
"The day's events celebrate the hard work of postal workers, acknowledge the critical role they play in our local communities and give them the thanks and recognition they deserve delivering the People's Post" says Carl Webb, Regional Secretary of the CWU
"Six days a week, 52 weeks a year, in heat waves, rain and snow your local posties deliver letters, parcels and packets to every household and business in the country" he adds "Use #PeoplesPost online to thank your local postie...or if you bump into them just say thanks! For less than the price of a cup of tea you can post a letter in Cornwall today and have it arrive in Scotland tomorrow. It's a wonderful human and logistical effort that should be celebrated and protected."
As well as thanking posties in person or on social media, the CWU also want as many people as possible to sign a petition urging a Parliamentary debate on the protection of postal services.
