Salford Quays is currently playing host to a series of digital art installations with Lightwaves 2015 showcasing the work of international artists until December 27th...
At the Lowry Plaza there's Cathedral of Mirrors by Mads Christensen, a Danish artist now living in the States. Mads' work explores how patterns of light affect people emotionally and his latest work, commissioned especially for the Quays fest, lights up in response to the movement of crowds.
At the MediaCityUK Piaza, there's Amaze by Icelandic based artist Marcos Zotes, a psychedelic maze `where magical moments, both private and collective, await those who enter'.
Also around the Quays are giant white luminous bunnies, titled Intrude, and created by Australian artist Amanda Parer to `remind us of the natural world, its fragility and our place within it, in an edgy, humorous way...'.
There's also Greater Manchester's Honour Choir performing on the Lowry Plaza at 7pm on Saturday 19th December, and a Scratchie make your own light-based artwork workshop with Stuart Childs on Saturday 19th December, 4pm-7:30pm.
Meanwhile, there's a raunchy online performance by the UK's Elly Clark called Sergina, which explores networked culture's effects on our sense of identity and relationships – click here to watch it.
The festival has been created to celebrate UNESCO's International Year of Light and is backed by AGMA and Arts Council England.
"Lightwaves 2015 will be a world-class attraction in a world-class destination, and a chance for visitors to become immersed in the leading digital light art of the age" says Lucy Dusgate, programme producer at Quays Culture "It's fantastic that we've got such successful artists on board from across the world – credit to both Greater Manchester's thriving cultural scene, and to The Quays as a destination."
