Hip Hop and fundraising for cancer don't usually go hand in hand but next Sunday, 15th November, there's a full twelve hour festival of rappers, graffiti artists, DJs, beatboxers and break dancers gathering to raise awareness and money for the condition.
"Hip hip is often portrayed as a negative thing but if people look, it's about peace, love, unity, having fun and bringing everyone together in the community" explains Red Venom, top Salford rapper has organised the day with DJ Sefton Madface "They do it in New York so I thought why not do something in Manchester and give the proceeds to a good cause. Everybody was happy to get involved in it."
Amongst around two dozen acts lined up there's a posse coming from France, and Donald D of Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate from the Bronx. There's graffiti artist Kelzo; DJ Pressure from Eccles, who's a presenter on Public Enemy's radio station; DJ El-Statiko, a DMC world finalist plus loads more legends on the local and national scene.
Red Venom, himself a bit of a legend (see previous Salford Star article click here) will also be doing a live spot and shooting a video for his new single with DJ Lord Jazz and Mr CRF.
He's keen to point out that all ages are welcome and there's loads to do for young people, including bouncy castles and a BBQ...
"On the day we've got graffiti boards around the back and everyone can get involved and have a go, and there'll be break dancing , it's going to be a family atmosphere" he stresses "My own son Calum will be doing some beatboxing and maybe a bit of rapping too. It's all about raising the funds and awareness that's necessary to fight and prevent illness."
