What can you say about a track that begins, in a swirl of violins and electronica... "Bullshit lies, revolting, revolting...I won't sit by and watch this unfolding'...? Well, what can you say, except... `Sounds good to me!'
The single is based on David Cameron's statement...`Those who can should, those who can't we will always help'; which would make anyone with a soul pen such a chorus.
The YouTube video that accompanies the track shows a sinister cut out mask of the Prime Minister mouthing such words, followed by a montage of homeless people, NHS signs and fire engines. All to an insistent beat that makes you want to throttle the Parliamentary Cabinet of millionaires.
The music project, Cabinet Of Millionaires has been busy playing at events around the Tory Conference protests, including the Love Music Hate Racism gig (with Mr Scruff) and the People's Assembly Against Austerity event with Terry Christian as part of Kate Marlow's play, Knock Knock.
Meanwhile, drum and bass veteran, Loggi, has done a frantic jungle remix which has been released on Emotif Records, while Welsh dubster, Ennio Maccaroni, has done a laid back dub mix. The original and the re-mixes are picking up thousands of plays on YouTube, Facebook and radio.
For Pat, aka Dave C, the sentiments of his Cabinet Of Millionaires concept should be spread around the dance heads...
"I'm into the older protest song genres but I'd love it if some of the modern dance genres would put the party down every now and then too, and start to speak their minds a bit more" he says "For example, drum n bass, a genre I sometimes work in, is huge right now and festival tents were rammed this summer. I've not heard that many political lyrics but I've taken a punt and got a Cabinet Of Millionaires jungle remix out there
"The track centres around David Cameron's 11th May 2010 statement from the steps of 10 Downing Street in which he said: `Those who can should, those who can't we will always help'" he explains "...I mean, five years later - hello! It's a bit like saying you'll never cut tax credits and then doing precisely that a few weeks later, whilst giving yourself a pay rise. I finished the song in 2014 and as we approached the election reasoned I should get my act together and put it out there.
"Political content is always a hard sell but I figured maybe it could help change a few disillusioned minds into voting" Pat adds "The election result was shocking. When you see the reaction of MPs like Iain Duncan Smith in the House of Commons punching the air as he successfully pushes through £12 billion worth of welfare cuts, as disabled people protest in the lobby against the loss of their Independent Living Fund...a total injustice. They are now having a go at the right to strike too."
Fittingly, the track ends `I've heard enough, I've heard enough, I've heard enough...'
Pat and his Cabinet Of Millionaires maybe from Huddersfield but the vibes are seeping into the soundtrack for the revolting bits of Salford and Manchester...
