The Headache Factory is another refreshing alternative to the mainstream, money driven world that the music business imposes...
"As musicians, we know how difficult it can be for unsigned acts to get a good gig around Manchester, so we took matters into our own hands" says Headache's Thom Hammersley "We pick only the most delicious, homegrown, organic bands for your entertainment and, with a pay what you can afford door policy, nobody is excluded."
On Friday night at The Crescent pub, compered by comedian David Stanier, four `delicious' bands are lined up, all unsigned and all going for alternative rock...
There's Rocketship Forest, whose Rick Hartley has jointly organised the event with Thom... Their sound, influenced by punk, electronic, mariachi and metal, is described as `folk music but loud', and, in order to avoid cliches, lyrics about love, break-ups and dancing are banned from their subject matter in favour of social commentary and storytelling... "Expect costumes, make-up and megaphones" says Thom.
Also on the bill are The Good Day Champions, honed by the likes of The Cure, The Libertines, The Sex Pistols, Oasis and The Kinks... "They write infectious indie pop songs with a punk rock snarl and a dash of humour" Thom explains.
The third band on stage is Jub Jub - "10 strings, 2 pedals, 1 drum machine, 1 synth and everything on red" Thom reveals "Ben and Sven, members of legendary Stoke-on-Trent pop-punk outfit, Friends of Ken, turn their hands to a more electronic, robot rock sound with astonishing results."
And the line-up is completed by Devils - "One drummer/vocalist and one guitarist" says Thom "Good old fashioned riff-mongering rock and roll with a contemporary twist. Think of acts like Drenge, The Wytches and Death From Above 1979 for an idea of their sound. Then think louder.
"It promises to be an excellent and exciting night" adds Thom "And, as it falls on the day before Halloween, costumes are strongly encouraged..."
