SALFORD RED DEVILS FIVE COUNTY COURT JUDGEMENTS IN TWO MONTHS

SHIRT SUPPLIER AND SOLICITOR AMONGST CCJS HANDED TO KOUKASH COMPANY

Salford Red Devils have been served with five County Court Judgements for bills totalling over £50,000 during April and May, the Salford Star can reveal. Amongst the companies serving the CCJs for non-payment of bills were the Freeths firm of solicitors and official kit suppliers Under Armour.

It was only last year that the previous shirt supplier, Kooga, served a CCJ on the club which still has an outstanding debt to Salford City Council of around £1.5million.

Last year, Salford Red Devils were served with a County Court Judgement (CCJ) by shirt suppliers, Kooga, over the non-payment of a debt (see previous Salford Star article – click here). Now the Salford Star can reveal that the club's new kit supplier, the US based sports clothing company Under Armour, has also served the Marwan Koukash company with a CCJ for £39,359.

Under Armour is one of five companies that served the Red Devils with CCJs totalling £50,311 during April and May. One order for £2,135 was satisfied at the end of May but the rest of the Judgements remain outstanding, including £8,122 to Freeths solicitors, the Salford Star understands. 

While the club still hasn't commented on the original Salford Star article on the Red Devils (see here), its CEO Martin Vickers said last week that "Bailiffs and debt collectors are regular visitors at sporting clubs".

Since the article appeared, Reds' player Tony Puletua has confirmed that he is taking legal action against the club.

Today, Marwan Koukash has made the following statement in his Manchester Evening News column about a press conference he has called for next Tuesday...

"I am going to wipe the smile off a few faces with what I will be revealing and announcing" he wrote "People thought they were smart making statements about the club's financial situation last week. They were picking on the wrong person thinking they were having a go and getting at me doing what they did.

"I am going to put the record straight once and for all" he added "I will have my turn to tell the truth and the full facts. The media can print what they like and statements can be made and said but the future of those in rugby league who have made accusations about me and the club could now have to face up to the consequences of what they have done. Be warned I say to them..."

This week Koukash has also tweeted, "Every story has 2 sides. They told theirs and very soon I will wipe the smile of their smug faces".

The Salford Star responds that, if he is talking about this magazine, the club had ample time to respond to the original article but chose not to...Meanwhile, the only interest this publication has in the finances of the Salford Red Devils is the outstanding debts and deals it has with Salford City Council and the vast amounts of public money involved.

So Kevin Locke has resigned citing unpaid wages, will not be missed on the field but if it is true about the wages it is not good. You will find that the Union junior world cup will be a number of games with group stages and knock out games.It may clash with The Reds fixtures next season. We will see what Tuesday brings.

What I want to know is why are the rugby union lot being allowed to push their game in Salford territory? We have a planned U20's world cup with a game at Barton on top of the coming 'Festival of Rugby' run again by the RFU and as usual, the lazy and apathetic rugby league body, clubs and organisers, sit back and do nothing! Our game is slowly being allowed to be taken over by the dark side with their media and money influences! We are technically a rugby league city and we need to win the game back ASAP! Marwan, please please employ competent staff to grow the game before the yawnion lot take the spoil, and they will! I admire their drive and enthusiasm.

I hope this not more hot air from Marwan. The most important part now is to avoid relegation when the middle eights start. As long as Marwan keeps the agreed payments to the council what is your issue. I can see that the council are wary of the club due to both the way Wilkinson and Watson did the land deal re The Willows and the way Vickers became CEO at Salford. But now the club needs all the fans to support them for the rest of the season. Yesterday the AJ Bell stadium was given the Union Junior world cup for next season we know this as nothing to do with the Reds but this as now grown into prestige event and is good for the stadium.

Amazed the Salford Star Highlights this Money Pit and the failure it is and is castigated. The reality I for one would like to know where all the Money paid from this council is going when we have services slashed, and yet we support a club without cash paying support.to all having a go at the Star wake up and smell the burning cash.

If we had a club that was managed efficiently and professionally, and had a proper marketing department, then many in the city of Salford would support the club. We have seen too much apathy and the way the club was run amateurishly under the Wilkinson regime and now we get the hype of the Koukash machine and promises, promises yet the club in turning into a slime pit. I am so glad the media is exposing the underhand and slyness of the how the current ownership and management of SRD is doing 'business'. At this rate with now TWO CCJ's from aparel suppliers, I would be surprised if SRD's will ever be able to attract kit sponsors!!! So comical to see Marwan's disciples standing to the hilt to defend the man......talk about polishing a t*rd.

Why don't they just build a nice new unpretentious ground that is actually in Salford - I understand the old space is still available. They could add on a nice entertainment centre, and call it, erm, The Willows. That would be nice.

I wonder if this amazing news will be along the lines of "The club is in good financial shape and has secured new funding from a source that wishes to remain anonymous for now" And in a few months time, the Salford Star reveals that it is another loan from Salford council?

Wow... does anyone read and pay attention to any of this garbage? The Salford Star is a pathetic little rag, obviously aiming to be as popular as it's namesake "The Star" which was also a waste of time and money. Does the "journalist" writing this piece not even have the decency to put his/her name against the article? Your obsession with Salford RLFC is cringeworthy and tedious... I'm pretty sure you could find many more examples of money spunked up the wall by Salford City Council than the money they have invested in their ONLY professional sports club. As the great man Mr Edmund Blackadder once said.... "Wibble"!!!

Have you actually stopped to think that the outstanding debt is more likely to be repaid if Salford Red Devils is retaining or attracting new customers? The publication's obsession at dragging the reputation of the rugby club through the mud (to have a pop at the council) isn't really in the best interests of the Salford Tax payer is it?

Your vendetta against the club of the city you represent is ridiculous, someone at your toilet rag of a magazine must really hate Salford RLFC the negativity shown to us by fellow Salfordians is part of the reason this great club never flourishes. Ever since this mag began you've had it in for us, it's sad and pathetic. Stick it where the sun doesn't shine

Instead of issuing CCJs I think suppliers should take a social responsibility approach by them sponsoring Salford Sports. Salford Council can help make that happen by allowing our creative young people the use of our public park concrete walls and brick bridges for young minds to create Banksy style local visions, attributing to gift sponsors as our thank you. I want Salford to be The Public Art City, fun and happy.

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
