When Not Too Tame performed its boozy drama, Early Doors at the Edinburgh Fringe it came home with a stinking hangover and some great reviews from the likes of The Times, The Scotsman and The Telegraph. Now it's coming to Salford, to the Royal Oak pub on Barton Lane in Eccles, for six performances over four days and nights.
Complete with tales of love, loss, laughter, drunken dancing, and a pub quiz, Early Doors, takes place with no stage, no theatrical seating, no interval and loads of bevies. The in an inn drama begins with a brother and sister reopening their much-loved family pub for the first time since their mother's passing. But, as the blurb states, `they are certainly not allowing any mourning tonight'.
"We want to see regular theatre goers laughing shoulder to shoulder with people who may be put off by the traditional, rigid theatre set-up" says Artistic Director, Jimmy Fairhurst "These amazing spaces were built to house and entertain large groups of people and we're using Early Doors to breathe life and public spirit directly into the heart of these communities.
"We are an incredibly passionate company; both about the work we create and how we engage the audiences we create it for" he adds "So head on down to your local and, if you make it past the bouncer, grab a drink, nestle yourself among the regulars and dive headfirst into this exhilarating night out..."
Andrew Butler, who performs in the play adds: "The core of the company are born and brought up in Warrington down the road, so we're expecting some good shows. This is a big deal for us to bring our show back to the North West."
Early Doors isn't so much of a theatrical experience as a night out. Should definitely provide something very different. Cheers.
