Kersal Moor was the scene of the Chartists' rallies demanding the vote, and all the talk at this afternoon's Festival was how the hell the Tories managed to get back in power. However there was plenty to take the mind off nasty, vicious spinning things with an apple peeling game in which the winners got a bulb of garlic to ward off evil.
With a `Fruits of the Earth' theme this year, the Kersal Moor Festival had stalls run by Friends of the Earth, Incredible Edible and Bee Cause, amongst others, while woodcrafts were on display, rescued birds of prey posed for photos courtesy of Wild Wings, and fruit themed crafts were made by children.
The Friends of Kersal Moor stall explained the history of the Moor, Salford Council's endangered Health Improvement Team gave tips on healthy living, crocheted flower headbands and broaches were sold, and the Salford Star stall sold t-shirts and mugs. Sixties sounds were provided by Frets, Besses Brass Band pumped out the classics and home-made cakes and drinks were sold at Gaia's Garden Tea Room.
The rain held off, the sun almost shined and another great Kersal Moor Festival helped people to forget for a few hours the horrors of what's politically arrived in the Westmonster shadows...
