SALFORD POLITICAL LANDSCAPE UNCHANGED IN 2015 LOCAL ELECTION

Star date: 9th May 2015

NO CHANGE IN SALFORD AS LABOUR WINS 17 OF 20 SEATS

There was no change in this year's local elections in Salford, with no seats changing hands as the Labour Party won the 17 seats it was defending and the Conservative Party won the three seats it was defending.

UKIP came second in 10 seats, although well behind Labour, with the Green Party establishing itself with over 6,000 votes, while TUSC pulled over 2,500 votes. In Little Hulton and Broughton, over half the residents didn't vote at all.

At the local election count yesterday there was no change in the political landscape of Salford, as the Labour Party successfully defended the 17 seats it was defending and the Conservative Party defended its three seats. It left the composition of Salford City Council exactly the same as it was before, the only difference being some new councillors replacing retiring ones on the Labour side.

Without making a dent in Labour's political hegemony, UKIP came a well beaten second in ten of the seats, with the only close fight being between the Tories and Labour in Kersal, where Labour's Harry Davies won by 238 votes.

Elsewhere, the Green Party local vote reflected its excellent showing in the General Election seats, gaining almost 6,000 votes, while TUSC, standing in all wards, picked up over 2,500 votes.

The turnout discrepancy between areas was apparent, as always, with over half of Little Hulton (46.9%) and Broughton (47.14%) residents not voting at all, while Worsley had a turnout of 71.12%.

Electoral math _ 20 seats changing colour in one term equals a mayoral cabinet paying attention. As it happens...it hasn't materialised. Sorry to all those who bemoan this..but you had opportunity to change voting systems, affiliations and the like and what did you do ? Stuck with the status quo. Debbie is quite right in what she says, but then again Tories liberals and skip hung around areas they'd campaigned around in the two or three years prior. Want my vote, then knock on doors..And quit the raindrops of leaflets..it may have won the Tories a general election..but nobody conversed their ideas at all.

Well, if you read my post I said before the Second World War, they were fighting in Spain in something called the Spanish Civil War. This is the war in which the Nazis honed their tactics and gained combat experience. Men such as Alex Armstrong, William Banks, Frank and George Brown. All from the Salford/Manchester area fought n the International Brigade. Alex Armstrong took part in the march to Bexley Square to protest about means tests and government cuts (ring a bell?). They were men of conviction who died for their beliefs so don't you fucking dare make stupid statements about socialism. You clearly know nothing about anything. You just keep thinking whatever Rupert Murdoch tells you to think. Some of us can think for ourselves.

Bernard, not everyone who fought in the Second World War were socialists. I know families, two and three generations who have never had a job and don't intend to, why should they get a job when the giro falls on the carpet every fortnight under the socialist mandate of don't be a mug and work, let the other mugs who work and pay taxes pay for your life styles, don't worry about money we'll pay for the 50" TV so you can put your feet up and watch Jeremy Kyle, this is what socialism has done to the country Bernard, remember Bernard 318,000 immigrants are coming in to the country each year to do the jobs you claim aren't there or are they claiming benifits too.

Fact - I have added up the Tory votes across Salford and the total adds to more votes than us Labour Mayor got at the 2012 Mayor election. If the Tory vote was to keep momentum; Salford gets a Conservative Mayor is 2016 running Salford. Or will National Labour get its act together in time? BTW, if the Tory camp is looking for an experienced Mayoral candidate - might want to look at asking a diversity, equality, social inclusion activist who seeks a pensioner's challenge!

"Socialism done more damage to this once great country than the nazi war machine ever could" In 1945 the people of this country elected it's first socialist government. It gave us the NHS and the welfare state. It improved the lives of ordinary working people. How dare you even attempt to sully the good name of socialists who gave their lives fighting fascism even before the Second World War began. You really do show your total ignorance by the comments you make. There is not point in trying to debate anything with such a blinkered bigot. You can keep blaming socialism for all the worlds ill, but your shortcomings are your own. You have said some stupid things in the past, but you have gone beyond the pale. Hide behind a nom de plume if you wish, it just shows what a shithouse you really are.

Take a couple of days Kenneth to come down off the drugs, put your brain in gear and come in to the real world, instead of the socialist twilight world you and Bernard seem to inhabit. Ps don't you feel guilty Kenneth having a second home when there are so many people living on the street, and you being an ardent SOCIALIST, shame on you Kenneth if you was a proper socialist Kenneth you'd sell your second home and give the proceeds to a homeless charity. See the wacky backy's getting stronger in salford, Kenneth must be growing his own, you want to go into partnership Bernard, his is almost as strong as yours. Kenneth you keep mentioning these small countries, with exception to Germany what have any of them done on the world stage, all except Germany have there own resources in oil, this is why they are wealthy not because of socialism. Your actually spot on about Germany, were't the German nazis in the Second World War also socialists, I can see the similarities between the nazi socialists and British socialists, both hate free speech unless it's on there terms, both use violence if the party they don't like, get in. On the biggest parties, Kenneth you must have the same reading abilities as Bernard, as pointed out ukip IS the third party in England, who mentioned the world, were talking about British politics, not world politics, but then again after the release of today's immigration figures 318,000 who came into the country, it won't belong before were electing a prime-minimiser who Can't speak a word of English. Socialism, done more damage to this once great country than the nazi war machine ever could. Who'd have thought Kenneth a champaign socialist, got a second home in Spain, and all these people living on the streets because people like Kenneth have second homes, what an hypocrite. Ps to Bernard on socialist education, go back into the stars archives, in the north west education league table salford council came second from bottom propped up by Tameside council, but to socialist educationalists this is a reason to cheer, brain dead people always vote socialism, keeps them in benefits and subservient to the socialist movement.

Kenneth, Tories pulled 37% of the countries vote, labour 31%, of the vote, ukip were next on 13% of the vote. The Tories 37% gave them around 332 seats, so taking ukip got a third of the vote of the Tories which equates to around four million votes, under a PR system this would have given ukip 100+ seats. On membership of a party, this dos not mater one iota at an election, this is about the voting public, not membership of a party, as for the SNP they got 4.5% of the vote which equated to 1.5 million people in Scotland, yet 4.5% got them 58 seats, seeing there is 5 million people in Scotland this means the SNP don't represent 3.5 million people, but control Scotland. I know Kenneth, Bernard, that facts and figures and economics are not your typical leftwing brain dead socialist strong points, seeing every leftwing socialist government this country has ever had has left us bankrupt, but you'll find that the above is true given +-1 or 2%, just look up the the election results, you can't beat the facts, unless your a socialist, then you'll just bend them to fit your argument. Four million votes makes ukip the third most popular party in England, sorry this makes all you leftwing muesli eaters sick as a parrot, but this is just a fact. Tell me Bernard, Kenneth how many votes did your lefties get, no where near ukip and that's combined. Ukip upward and forward the march go's on. Ps considering the Tories, labour and all the lefties keep saying that ukip are a small protest party you all spend a lot of time trying to put them down, not got something to fear from them have you, sounds like you all have.

So with one seat and fewer than half the membership of the SNP and fewer members than the Green Party UKIP are the third largest political party in the UK? Though it is refreshing for you to admit that Labour are no longer a socialist party. I don't need anybody to come to my rescue. As I keep pointing out I give you facts and you ignore them. Did the Tories borrow more in five years than Labour did in thirteen? Yes they did. Are ordinary working people worse off now than they were in 2010? Yes they are. You should take up with the editor of the Salford Star why your posts are not displayed, it has nothing to with me. When the Tories have privatised the NHS and more people are dying because of their callous indifference you might change your tune. Though judging by your comments humanity and compassion are attributes you do not possess. Bernard is't it about time the salford star come running to your rescue one again on that white charger of there's and stop the debate like they always do, it's not nice seeing a champaign socialist having his ideology ripped apart in public, come on star, save Bernard from his embarrassment once again.

You just keep reinforcing my argument that the Labour Party is no longer socialist. You are the one falling for the bullshit spouted by the nasty party. Though I am no friend of the modern Labour Party, I have to say that the current government have increased borrowing year on year and have now borrowed more in five years than Labour did in 13. Unlike you I can give sources. The nasties have lied incessantly and got into power on those lies. It says much that the forelock tugging "want to come round sleep my wife my lord" types fell for the bullshit and we will now suffer another five years of cuts from central government while tax cuts are given to the rich. I have explained enough to you over the weeks and months, but you are obviously too set against something that you have no understanding of that whatever one says you will just keep regurgitating the nasty party line.

Bernard the only people bashing the north ie salford is the salford Labour Party, remember £22 million + on salford reds, millions to peel holdings, £13million on a fountain, the list go's on, and all this money being spent at a time when the country was on its knees and salford labour spending this money at the same time when it was stoping transport for children and adults with disabilities. So don't fall the leftwing view that all Salford's problems are down to capitalism or Tories, it's down to labour not being up to the job, every time they get in they bankrupt the country.

The north west go with Scotland when they go independent, now I know your smoking something a little stronger than a cigaret, Bernard, George Osborn has suggested that Scotland be given complete control of all there finances ie tax raising, health care ect, but sturgeon is shiting herself, she has told Cameron she dos't want this yet, Osborn is proposing this, quite cleverly, because Osborn and sturgeon and as Alex salmon know Scotland car't survive without English tax payers money, it's been calculated that Scotland would I believe fall short 20/40 £billion a year, at the moment it is the English tax payer who subsidises Scotland's free prescriptions, higher education and health care, we also subsidise there ship building with English tax payers money, than if we take out the nuke subs from faslane as salmon and sturgeon want then it's by by Scotland hello third world Scotland. And before you go on about North Sea oil,1 this is running out 2 it's low quality 3 the oil price is dropping at the moment and Scotland car't base it's economy on a produce that's go's up and down like a yo yo. One more thing, Europe has told Scotland if the go independent they won't be allowed to join the European zone and also the Bank of England has also told salmon and sturgeon they won't be allowed to use the pound as there currency the'll have to make a new currency for Scotland which the international markets won't trust as Scotland will then be a third world basket case, run by brain dead socialists. PS this is how you spell place, with an L. If you want to criticise my spelling and grammar as you've done in the past, then make sure your own is up to scratch Bernard. If socialism isn't dead Bernard then where is your so socialist party then, you had enough people representing leftwing policies at the election, tusc, greens, bez and his party, most didn't get out of double figures. You keep saying salford and the country is socialist, you talk of all these socialist demonstrations but the reality is that nearly 80% of the people who could vote voted for right wing parties, labour is right wing, is't it Bernard, so this just go's to prove that socialism is dead. What happened in London by the few remaining socialist left just proves my point that socialist are just a bunch of violent thugs that throw their dummies out of the pram when they car't get their own way. Quite funny really, most of these socialist thugs usually go on to join and become labour MPs and councillors then once they get their noses in the money trough become capitalists, or as the saying go's "champaign socialists", in every socialist there's a capitalist waiting to get out, just look at the labour parties front bench and this council, just proves my point. On the NHS, 6% of the NHS is private, 5% of that was brought in when labour was in power for thirteen years, and who brought in PFI, where were now paying a fortune for school and hospital buildings, that right, the Labour Party, the party that puts the poorest in society first. A school that probably costs £5 million to build, but costs the tax payer eventually nearer to £50 million a couple of decades later, this is why socialist labour left the country bankrupt, economics of a mad man, then they leave a note in the money box saying "no money left" all the best for the future, labour, this is why labour and the socialist got beat at the election, they could't be trusted on the economy.

"Socialism is dead". No it is not, look at the occupy movement, an anti capitalist movement working against the excesses of laissez faire, "the market can do everything" economics. Why the people of this country have chosen to leave themselves in the hands of a corrupt bunch of self serving sociopaths is beyond me. My best guess would be that they went down the pocket book voting road and voted for the party that they would cut their taxes. What the Tories haven't told us is how they will fund the NHS, tax cuts etc. If the people are given a referendum on Europe and decide we should pull out of the EU will UKIP then disband? They are after all a single issue party which if this country should leave the EU would no longer have a platform. The very fact that there have been such unprecedented demonstrations against an incoming government tells us that there is enough strength of feeling to make things very uncomfortable for any party that continues along the road we have tread since 1979. The fight against inequality must and will continue.

Labour results in Salford and Manchester are good news for managing allocated devolved health budget. Labour must however address needs of our vulnerable local people that require support. I hope Labour's victory will be a platform to prove they can develop caring communities, using greater consideration.

Just like I've said in the past, socialism is dead, time for someone to throw the soil on the socialist coffin, put the flowers on top and have done with it. Well done UKIP, farage will be back, 37% of the vote equates to over 300 seats in parliament for the Tories, yet nearly 13% only equates to only 1 seat for UKIP, SNP get less than 5% and get what 58 seats. time for PR in politics. I predict Scotland will go for independence within 2/5 years, killing any hope of labour ever ruling and ruining England again. UKIP are the third party in England, remember kippers it's a marathon not a sprint, onwards and upwards. Ps before Bernard brough comes on and tries to slate UKIP as failures, where did your socialist groups come. If it wasn't for the SNP UKIP would have done better, a lot of UKIP voted Tory to keep the SNP and labour out. Disgraceful, in the news today a war mamorial was defaced by leftwing socialists who were annoyed at the Tories winning the election, but this just shows what the socialist left are really like. Bitter losers who hate freedom of speech.

Liebour have very little chance of forming a majority government ever again. They only ever formed a government with a large number of Scottish MPs, now they have been kicked out of Scotland they have no chance. The liebour party (red Tories) do not have the trust of the people any more. The next few years will see there slow demise. To TUSC I will say that people do not trust another union backed party. Noreen would be much better standing as an independent, more people would support her. Which party will Norman Owen join now to try get back into politics ?

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
