Wesley PP Hall, who campaigns on behalf of homeless people in Manchester, was all set to ask a question to the party leaders tonight during the live tv debate. He says that he was on the shortlist of twenty people who had a chance of grilling the politicians. Then, last night, he got a call from ITV's marketing people to say that Greater Manchester Police had banned him from taking part.

"Unfortunately I do have to stand you down because I've been advised that you won't be allowed to access the studio tomorrow night, I wasn't given any reason for it" said the  ITV rep, in a taped call posted on Facebook

"It came through from Greater Manchester Police so I'm afraid there's not really much more I can say" he added "...Greater Manchester Police said that they won't grant you access to the studio...I haven't been given any explanation...."

Wesley responded "I actually run a homelessness initiative in Manchester city centre and there's an inspector who is absolutely trying to ruin my projects because we've been highlighting the problems due to austerity, poverty, and if you look at the actual question I wanted to ask the politicians it all relates to austerity and people dying on the streets. It's like GMP don't want me to point out the problem, to highlight it..."

Wesley has recently been on BBC 3 and Question Time, so has passed previous checks. Tonight Wesley went down to Media City to protest about his gagging...

"I've had no reason given whatsoever" he said "I've been open with everyone about my criminal background that has led me to my campaign...I've been homeless, been though the judicial system, and I understand it ...and now there's a lot of volunteers willing to help and people following my campaign.

"My question was on austerity, homelessness, poverty and deaths on streets" he explained "but I also wanted to ask about child abuse and paedophilia, and there's a current case with a German MEP who's released some related stuff online and there's an arrest warrant out for her and she's had to leave the country.

"There were 240 people in there and I was down to the last twenty to ask a question and would have got an opportunity" he added "Any of these topics need to be addressed that they're not talking about, and that's what the point was."

Wesley had the fake cop PC 666 with him to emphasise the GMP actions. However, while he was gagged, the media and political circus rolled on without him...

• The Salford Star contacted the GMP for a comment but it didn't respond.

Government are corrupt self-serving sociopaths , both nationally and locally. Corrupt deviant exploiters , whose sole interest is self-enrichment by exploiting the taxpayer. They are propping up their corrupt establishment by passing more and more corrupt and undemocratic legislation. Just more bullshit rules and regulations enforced by state violence and threats . It really is time to Rise Up and Smash the System , Tomorrow will be too late .

I would suggest Mr Hall has an arguable claim against Greater Manchester Police under the Human Rights Act for interference with the freedom of expression provisions of Article 10. He should consult a solicitor. A disclosure order from the courts would reveal why he was refused access.

This is just more evidence of the constant oppression from our countries leaders, local government and police. However, as W. P Hall has done, we will not remain silent, we will speak out against the wrongs and we will expose all those involved. Well done Mr Hall. Mark Gillard

I have read most of the comments concerning the need to vote for the right Political Party. But voting for any Political Party, will not fix the problems in Salford. There have been problems with care, support, housing, crime, and dubious police action, when Labour were at number 10. Granted, the Conservatives have made things even worse by cutting funding to everything, in the name of essential Austerity. But it's all a matter of memory. If you read and remember the news stories that have appeared in, The Salford Star, over the last two years, you will have understood that regardless of which Political Party runs this country, The Salford Council, and it's Mayor, refuse to take any notice of the Current Government Legislation. So really there is no point voting any Political Party into power, if the city in which you live, makes up its own rules, and legislation, and ignores the poor and vulnerable. In my opinion the Conservatives have caused a lot of problems for those on a limited income, and have bullied those who are disabled, and claim some form of benefit. But they are not responsible for the inappropriate and damaging decisions, The Salford Mayor, and his Council have made. As stated in the Salford Star. The Salford Mayor was trying to abolish the Discretionary Payment Fund, even though there was not a need to do so. Therefore it is "Vital" that those who reside in Salford remember the following. A man who serves and represents the vulnerable, and destitute, was gagged, not by a Political Party, but by our very own Council and GMP.

#lightbreaksagain I wondered when people would see sense. Topman920 makes a valid point. Thing is - If all you do after moaning is A) continue voting for the incumbent or B) Don't show up at all...then there's no point in arguing - the result will be the same - those in charge think everything's hunky-dory and nothing gets done, hence gnashing of teeth a week later when the reality of peoples actions kick in. I watched that debate - and they were all equally culpable depending on your point of view..when the dust is settled who truly will try to change the lot of the needy and vulnerable in this city at Westminster - that's what you need to ask

Wesley Hall is becoming increasingly well known in the area for the work he does with the underprivileged, he would have been the perfect person to be asking questions to politicians. He is being victimised for flagging up failures in society and for his unwillingness to bow down to the police. They won't stop Mr Hall as he is a man on a mission, he may have a criminal record but I wish I had half this man's integrity and courage.

You couldn't make it up! A campaigner banned from asking a question at a debate!! I expected it from ian stewart and his Labour cronies, as he has previous form for it. Will they even bother to give an explanation for banning FREE SPEECH?

You have to look at this gagging order from a different perspective. I too have been gagged in the past by the GMP. But the reasoning will be the same. Manchester/Salford council have created an image that is built on propeganda. This propeganda consists of one statement. And that is "Manchester and Salford is a fabulous place to live, and there are no problems with housing and care, ect, ect, ect". But the reality is quite different. There is a serious support and care problem in Manchester/Salford, which was brought to light by the Salford Star, only recently. If you look in every doorway of Market Street, within Manchester City Centre, you will find a homeless person sleeping there. Low cost housing is practically none existent, and all the Council Housing for those who are on a low income, has either been pulled down, or been turned into a Private Housing Association. Obviously both Manchester and Salford Council cannot allow such truths to be made public, as this would have a detrimental effect on Tourism, Invester's, and Developers. Manchester and Salford Council therefore use the GMP as a political guard. So they ask the GMP to use some old criminal records against an activist, to ensure they are silenced. Obviously this adult was prevented from talking to the BBC, on the off chance he stated something that will incriminate either the Manchester and/or Salford Council. This is why the GMP gagged this gentleman. But that is only stage one of the Manchester/Salford Councils plan. The next stage may consist of making this person less credible to the general public. This can be done many ways. The Council can harrass this individual so they receive less services, until they suffer a nervous breakdown, or they can accidentally forward information concerning this individual, to the press and/or members of the public. I know this can happen, because it has happened to me, over and over again. Either way, free speech, and democracy, has long since vanished from the city of Salford and Manchester.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
