As Manchester continues its takeover of Salford, a Salford girl is aiming to turn the tide and take the title of Miss Manchester. 

17 year old Sara Humphreys, a Disney Princess impersonator from Walkden, says that the competition is more than a pageant and involves raising money for good causes. But to win that Manchester title she needs Salford people's help.

Everyone in Salford is a bit fed up of the city being re-branded as `Manchester'... University of Salford, Manchester... MediaCityUK, Manchester... Lowry Hotel, Manchester... But now a Salford girl is fighting back, aiming to take the Miss Manchester title...

"It would be fab if a Salford girl won!" says Sara Humphreys, a 17 year old from Walkden who has her eyes set on the crown. The Manchester title is the first step in the Miss England competition, which leads eventually to the Miss World contest. Or as the pageant's blurb states "The search is on for a talented, sporty, photogenic charitable female who has modelling potential to represent the nation on a world stage..."

Sara, who runs her own party entertainment business as a Disney Princess impersonator and is working towards being a full time nursery nurse, is up for the challenge...

"My mum and friends have been telling me since I was 13 that I should enter beauty pageants but I always just laughed and thought there was no chance I'd ever get anywhere in them, but I always secretly thought it would be amazing" she explains "I turned 17 last December and was finally old enough to enter Miss Manchester, so when I saw it advertised on Facebook I thought I'd give it a go.

"My sister, Lizzie, is the one who encouraged me to actually have the confidence and believe in myself, I wouldn't have entered if it wasn't for her" she adds "I've definitely grown very fond of the competition; they are involved with a charity called Beauty with a Purpose and I plan to raise money for that over the next few weeks. I love fundraising for a good cause so it's absolutely one of my favourite things about it..."

To get into the live final of Miss Manchester, Sara needs Salford people to support her by voting via text...
