EDL OUTNUMBERED THREE TO ONE IN MANCHESTER AS `IRRESPONSIBLE’ CITY LEADERS SLATED

Star date: 7th March 2015

IN THE MIDST OF MASSIVE CUTS, EDL GIVEN FREE BUSES AS COUNCIL LEADERS SLATED

Today's counter demonstration in Manchester saw over seven hundred people take to the streets to tell the English Defence League (EDL) that its two hundred supporters weren't welcome in the city.

Meanwhile, civic leaders who called for people to `ignore' the EDL were constantly slated by speakers at the anti-racist rally, while Manchester Council and Greater Manchester Police leaders were also criticised for laying on free buses for the EDL and `deterring young people from travelling into the city centre' to oppose the EDL.

Yesterday civic leaders, including Greater Manchester's Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, Imam Rashid Musa, Imam of Salford, Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell and Manchester City Council Leader Richard Leese, called for local people to `simply ignore' the planned gathering of the English Defence League (EDL) in Manchester.

Today, as over seven hundred people attended a rally and march through Manchester's streets to oppose the two hundred EDL supporters hemmed into Albert Square by 10ft high metal barriers, those civic leaders were absolutely slated for their statement.

"It's mind bogglingly stupid and historically ignorant" said Rhetta Moran of Unite Against Fascism (UAF) "History has unfortunately demonstrated time and time and time again that you do not get rid of fascism or Nazism, or the racism that underpins it, by ignoring it. You have to confront it and you have to confront it in numbers."

Meanwhile, a joint circular was also put out by Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council advising `local people not to take part in any counter demonstrations', adding that `community mediators will be instrumental in deterring young people from travelling into the city centre'.

"I think it is intensely irresponsible of the elected leaders of this city to attempt to de-mobilise our youth away from demonstrating the fact that they are opposed to Nazism and fascism and to racism" Rhetta explained "The political leaders need to take a long hard look at themselves...It's the racist and the fascists - and the backward element of our politicians who think the way to deal with it is to ignore it - who ultimately will be defeated."

The Council and GMP also came under fire for laying on `special free buses' for the EDL while facing huge cuts to their budgets, including the Council slashing transport services for vulnerable people.

Now Unite Against Fascism is publicly asking Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council to state: How much money the policing of the EDL demonstration cost and from which budgets the money was taken? Who paid
for the `special free buses'? And who was paid to `deter' young people from travelling to their own city centre?

"I'm sick to death of going around the country where there's free buses laid on" Paul Sillett, national campaigner for UAF told the rally "Why don't they provide free buses for those who haven't got the money to get here? In these times of austerity we're told there's no money but every demonstration I can recall for the last year and a half, the EDL has been given a free hand, given pubs, and had free buses."

In the event over seven hundred people turned out for the peaceful rally and march against the EDL, including lots from Salford...

"We're here because it's important that when the far right try to mobilise and somehow try to claim they represent ordinary people that we say `They do not'" explained Ameen Hadi from Salford City UNISON "We stand for a multicultural Manchester and Salford, not division."

And the We're Are The Reality Party from Salford was also at the protest... "We're here to show opposition to the EDL" said John Ozric Brealey "to show a bit of solidarity with the brothers and sisters who feel that the EDL is outdated..."

UKIP ARE Tories and ARE the establishment so how could they be a threat to it? UKIP represents people like their leader Farage, the financial elite, not ordinary people in any shape or form. They loathe us whilst pretending to be us. Very foolish to fall for this cheap trick.

@ratatosk, have replied but sensors once again, and the reply isn't abusive or racist, just what 90% of the country are thinking and are saying, but the left media and some on the right are just sensoring because they know it's true. This is why labour/Tories/libdems are attacking ukip because they are telling the truth about what is going on in Britain and this threatens the cosy little world of labour/Tories/libdems the'll do and say anything to hang on to power at any cost. ukip is a threat to their cosy political establishment. The political elite don't like the fact that now the country has a party in ukip that not only represents the people but speaks on their behalf. Once again the three main parties have decided to stop talking about immigration in the coming elections because all three have failed on controlling it, but it is still the peoples number one concern in the country. And remember the Labour Party members have been told not to mention it on the door step in the elections, when they knock on your door ask about immigration and how it's going to effect the future of your children and grandchildren, shortage of school places, housing, doctors waiting times etc.

"David Cameron" it is not a question of "calling" the EDL thugs they are thugs pure and simple as their criminal records for thankfully crap violent crimes and behaviour whenever they try to invade our towns attest. Fortunately this time the feral pack animals were in a cage where they could not harm the rest of us who had to pay for said cage. The abuse perpetrated in Rotherham and Rochdale is terrible but it was not perpetuated by the entire 2.6 million Muslims in the UK. There is a problem and it is for rational adults to solve not the angry ageing adolescents of the EDL. They cannot control their tempers or take their drink never mind contribute to a complex problem. Fortunately there are only a few thousand of the EDL thugs at most and despising them is not a matter of being left or right politically, just civilised as they are not.

To the people on here calling the edl thugs and scum, how many edl have killed in the name of there cause, how many have racially raped white school girls, how many have killed or tried to kill British soldiers the answer is none. Yet the people on the left campaign against the edl when the edl demonstrates against the above acts of violence against this country, the people on the left only have to look to the Middle East to see what the future of this country is to become if we allow the the march of Islam to continue in Europe, all these people who oppose the edl need to remember that under Islam they are just as much as in danger from Islam as people who want to fight for our countries way of life and culture. You only have to look at the pole of Muslims that the BBC did the other week and over half said that they supported what Isis was doing and this pole was done by the leftwing BBC, the left have as much if not more to lose in an Islamic state as people on the right do, only difference is that once the people on the right have gone, who's going to be left to fight for this country, by the look of some of the people on the demonstration in the pictures above then that is going to be no one, they don't look like the quality that won two world wars, sorry too limp wristed. I laugh that the left want to support and protect a religion that wants to destroy what they claim that they are fighting for, but then the idiocy of the left never surprises me.

The two idiot girls in the picture holding a sign saying I love mosques more minarets in Switzerland, to these two girls, when Islam takes over this country do you think you will be allowed to dress the way you do, the only colour you'll be allowed to wear is black and forget about education you'll be to busy being chained to the kitchen sink, seems the education standards in the schools has dropped once again, if these two are the standard of today's youth then this country is in serious trouble, I fear for this countries future. These two need to learn a little bit about the suffragettes and what they fought for, it wasn't for woman to be dragged back to the thirteenth century as Islam would like you to do. So be careful what you wish for girls.

Taken from the EDL website: We are an inclusive movement dedicated to peacefully protesting against Islamic extremism. Taken from UAF website: THE EDL IS RACIST, particularly targeting Muslims. Since when have Muslims been a race? A member of any race can be a Muslim. A member of any race can be an extreme Muslim. Events around the world, and at home, have shown us the multi-racial makeup of extremism. Talking about race is ignoring the real issue - if the issue was discussed and dealt with properly by our Great Leaders then there would be no need for an organisation like the EDL. And what exactly makes them Fascist? UAF seem to be pretty good at that - wanting to deny democracy to anyone they disagree with. This quote about sums it up: LGBT rights activist Peter Tatchell has accused UAF of a selective approach to bigotry: "UAF commendably opposes the BNP and EDL but it is silent about Islamist fascists who promote anti-Semitism, homophobia, sexism and sectarian attacks on non-extremist Muslims. It is time the UAF campaigned against the Islamist far right as well as against the EDL and BNP far right."

It does not matter if the EDl wanted the buses or not. Public funds should not be spent on giving these thugs free transport. Only 400 at most came here and the indication is that they were given assistance to do so. If they cannot be bothered to save their dole money for their grunting gathering why should Greater Manchester tax payers help them?

That's right Sonia. The EDL don't want booze before a demo either. The Police make the pubs to open just to make the EDL drink. If they don't drink the police will arrest them and put them in dark damp dungeons full of scary dragons. It's all just pure proper gander. Apart from all the racists and Fascists in the EDL no-one in the EDL is racist and Fascist except them that are. Well said. Top day. NFSE.

Mancunians may WELL have noticed this morning the return of our fresh city air shared by all of us regardless of discrimination. The vile foul stench that wafted across a tiny part of Albert Square yesterday afternoon has thankfully passed. Eagle eyed locals may have spotted workers in white coats and appropriate bio-hazard equipment from Councils Sanitation and Sewage Department attentiveley cleansing and decontaminating the small corner of the square contaminated by the verminous EDL with urine , puke, beer cans and spit with high pressure hoses and fumigation sprays making it fit for normal decent working class people once again. Happy International Womens Day Manchester ! ! No Passaran ! Lets declare Manchester a NAZI/EDL Free Zone 2015

Great report on the events in Manchester. Other media are also reporting that the antifacist out numbered the EDL knuckle draggers significantly. One report says the police had to come to the aid of some knuckle draggers who thought it wise to engage antifacist ..police moving in as the antifacist responded in large numbers. A great day for the antifacist movement and a piss poor turn out for the knuckle draggers of the EDL following a national call out, and those knuckle dragging scum who latch on and dirty our streets! No Pasaran

EDL = Morons led by thick racist knobheads. These outside racist scum were outnumbered at least three to one by the normal, decent, hardworking Mancunians who live OUR great vibrant thriving Multi Cultural Metropolis unlike the EDL unempoyables who had to be shipped in from outside at OUR expense. Send these fascist scum the Bill they'll be paying it out of their benefits for a hundred years that'll keep these idle idiot losers quite for a decade or two ' LOL!!

No doubt the reasoning for laying on buses for the EDL would have been on the grounds of stopping potential crime and anti-social behavior..........so the disabled have their answer keep marching on the Town Hall and get some of your friends to have a counter march.......how soon before your transport is brought back. By the way this is not the first time transport has been layed on for the EDL it happened a few years ago in Manchester.

Mike the UAF lot always lie about numbers. I was in town and saw them and 250 would be generous. You need to understand that that lot of nutters and the EDL are two sides of the same coin. Given that most people in manchester couldn't give a monkeys about the EDL and most of those that do did what the sensible people were calling for, which was to ignore them, do you really think the racist meatheads would turn up in Manchester if there wasn't a group of UAF nutters to shout at for a couple of hours? It's a nice day out for the racists and the crusties, just a shame the rest of us have to pay for it.

This is pure propaganda. Edl don't ask for the buses they get told they have to have them This wasn't a racist March. There are many ra es involved with edl. They are against this country bowing down to Muslims instead if saying now. At the moment Muslims are the spoilt child and the government are the scared parents not wanting to say no. Edl want that to stop and I agree with them. Their not neo nazi facials or racists they are British people that want to live in a British country

WTF? What are the logistics of the EDL free buses ? There has to be a people-led enquiry into the decision making processes that grant free buses to fascists and, at the same time, take transport away from disabled people ?? Do Tony Lloyd et al have no respect for the people of Salford and Manchester who fought fascism ? What utter hypocrisy

Interesting that the Greater Manchester Police, supported by both Manchester and Salford Councils, held a meeting at the Tiwn Hall on Thursday, called ' We stand Together' It was put on to encourage integration. Need I repeat intergration..To then discourage the general public from showing their feelings against a group of bigoted people who don't want integration seems a confused approach. I guess the police were worried about a confrontation. Perhaps to ban the EDL supporters would be a better approach would be more in line, rather than free buses. Finally, it was good to see so many young people of mixed nationalities on the March. A sign of hope!

Free transport to and from the EDL demo's and arranging pubs is not 'facilitating' the EDL. It is enabling (assisting) them to organise their hate-fests. It might fit with football (as the police will argue) - but the EDL is an organisation of racists and Fascists - not the same. Simples. No wonder people shout 'Police protect the Fascists'.

See Mike's comment below...Sorry but you are totally wrong. There might have been around 250 on the original rally when it first began but as the day wore on numbers swelled and you can see from the photos just how many people were on the march. How long did you stay for - five minutes?
