2014 was the hottest year on record and, as a wake-up call to politicians and the public before the General Election, anti-fracking groups and anti-climate change organisations have joined up to call a massive Time to Act national climate march for next Saturday 7th March in London.
Supported by loads of groups, from Frack Free Walkden, Frack Free Salford and Frack Free Greater Manchester, to the Campaign against Climate Change, speakers at the march will include Green Party MP Caroline Lucas, Tina Louise Rothery, the anti-fracking nana who's running against George Osborne in his Tatton constituency, John Sauven from Greenpeace UK and Matt Wrack, General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union. Russell Brand and Naomi Klein will also be giving video messages.
"The People's Climate March last September was huge" state the Time To Act organisers "Around the world hundreds of thousands took to the streets and together made history. 2015 needs to be even bigger. The UN climate talks in Paris this December are crucial if we're going to protect all that we love. So far the pledges on the table are nowhere near enough.
"Across the UK people are already building change - from divestment of funds which prop up the fossil fuel industry, to frontline communities fighting unsustainable energy extraction and fracking, through to those paving the way for a transition towards a 100% renewable energy future which would bring about an estimated one million new climate jobs in the UK alone" they add "We know what needs to be done, the solutions are here now. Climate has got to be at the top of every politician's agenda. The movement is growing, and we're more diverse and more determined than ever before. Join us two months before the election for a mass demonstration and wake-up call. Now is the time to act."
